Thanks for the response! That's true ngl and i think a smaller community for a sixth form is so much better. One of the sixth forms that I applied to has over 1000 students in the sixth form and 2000 in their secondary!😭 Is SuMs ur first option?

Yh I'm thinking of going to SuMs for 6th form. And I do agree that a smaller sixth form is better. So definitely consider this school - don't be swayed by the journey. Guildford isn't a big town, so many people are outside the city.

@j(√-1)nxx, any advice on what would be the best device, if any, to bring to school for notes, assignments, etc. From what I read in sixth form it is common for students to start bringing laptops/tablets and I wonder what is generally considered the best device for this, especially, for a math school

Hey all. After the deadline of accepting offers has passed, I'm wondering how many of you are going to this school? If you guys want to know, I am, but I am also interested why you guys are also going.

would you guys acc go to this school? I really like the school and I've heard good things about it so far- but i live in sth ldn and it's jst so far away😔 do you guys think I'm better of going to sixth forms closer?

If you're in Sth London, surely you can get some kind of direct train to Guildford right? You might have to change over once or twice based on how connected the closest station to you is. Also i feel like if the majority of your journey is a train journey, it'll be worth it because at least you can sit down and do work on the train. I really think the school is worth it, but if your journey is going to involve more bus journeys then i'd reconsider.

All the maths schools that I know of have students with up to two hours commute each way. It's very important to consider your potential journey and how crowded it is likely to be. It's one thing to have long journey where the train isn't too busy, you have a seat and can do some homework etc. But having to stand on a crowded train every day would be very tiring.

I'll probably end up going to SuMS - the clubs and opportunities are what really appealed to me, even though it is quite a way away from where I live. The offer holder event sounds really fun, looking forward to meeting people there )

All students are supposed to bring devices to school, but don't worry if you don't have one, as the school can let you borrow one. If you are keen on getting one and you want to write on it (notes, worksheets, etc.), I recommend something you can write with a touch pen, just because for some subjects you will be required to draw diagrams/symbols or just write manually in general.

I personally just prefer writing on paper as its easier, for me.

I realised that I can make it until 12-ish. So yh I'm attending and I hope to see many of you there

I'm interested in any info/feedback on the Surrey Maths School (SuMS). I know the school has just been opened in September 2024, so no test or uni admission results are available, but I wonder, how does the level of students compare to other math schools (KCLSM/Imperial) or a good grammar school, especially, given that it is not as popular as other more established schools and is relatively far away from most London boroughs and suburbs?

As a student from SuMS, it is by far the best decision you will ever make if you enjoy maths and science and or computer science / economics. The school itself in terms of teacher quality is outstanding, but the best part of this setting is that people are in a safe environment to study and enjoy what they love to do. I have made so many strong friendships and feel included in the community despite having many challenges with friendships in the past, this is mostly due to the friendly atmosphere around the entire school. Strongly recommend even if it means commuting a bit further than you'd like.

hey, this was a while back but I really like the look of sums. It all sounds rlly positive. I was wondering if people have much of a social life outside of school here? is it too much workload to go out after school or on weekends? do people do that or does everyone live too far away? I most likely will end up going here anyway. thanks

heya! I think it definitely depends on how you find the workload and how far away you live, but I would say lots of people do have social lives, if not all! People go out on weekends, have clubs, participate in competitive sports teams, do music grades, etc. The school definitely encourages and understands having a good work-life balance

thanks! do people tend to live close to the school? my commute would be around an hour, towards what area do people tend to live, are there many people around south west London?
