As a student from SuMS, it is by far the best decision you will ever make if you enjoy maths and science and or computer science / economics. The school itself in terms of teacher quality is outstanding, but the best part of this setting is that people are in a safe environment to study and enjoy what they love to do. I have made so many strong friendships and feel included in the community despite having many challenges with friendships in the past, this is mostly due to the friendly atmosphere around the entire school. Strongly recommend even if it means commuting a bit further than you'd like.

Hey. I just want to ask what the student population is for people who take Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Chemistry. I am kinda worried my choices are niche compared to the other options.

i go to cambridge maths school and 1 hour is a relatively normal commute, even for sixth form its normal tbh

ofc you will always have some people who have a commute less than 10 minutes (and still be late) - dont let commute time put you off a school that really appeals to you - you can always just do past exam questions or learn really niche stuff during the commute

It is definitely not uncommon. There are 25 people out of the 85 of us with those options, you can do the maths on that. Regardless, the options you take won't impact much, as it is such a close working environment that everyone gets to know everyone quite quickly. Definitely just choose the subjects you enjoy is my advice

hiii, I applied to SuMS, mostly because it’s way closer to my house than any other maths school (kclms is 2hrs and 5 changes from me + iclms is like 3-4hrs). I also applied to nonsuch + tiffin girls. i haven’t rlly made up my mind on which is my first choice but I rlly want to go to a maths school but I don’t want to spend ages on transport so I’m quite keen on Surrey maths. I’ve tried the sample paper, it seems fairly rigorous so I imagine the people who get into the schl will be pretty smart. as well as that, there’s a bunch of good schools (Guildford high, reigate, Sutton grammar, etc) in/near Surrey so I imagine that the cohort should be fairly bright. As for comparison to kclms and iclms, it’s really too early to tell but I think kclms is definitely the best school in England rn. Surrey maths may be on level with/slightly below Imperial (since they’re closer in age). are you applying anywhere else?

Did you get into SuMS now? If yes, how you feel about the school and how many girls in your year? Thanks very much!
