International student St Andrews

Hey,

Im a student from Switzerland and just received an offer from St Andrews for Philosophy and Economics. Since I ve only visited the UK once and did not have a chance to take a look at St Andrews I just wanted to ask if anyone who has been there or has studied there already can give me some more information and advice? Thanks

I did my study abroad in St. A back in advent 2023 and I am DESPERATE to get back. Its a great town with a fun night life but its not distracting. LMK if you have any specific questions because I can just go on for hours.

Hey! I received a conditional offer from St. Andrews as well, but for the degree of MA Geography and Sustainable Development! Just a few questions for you:
1. I've heard about the traditions at St. Andrews, some of them sound pretty intimidating as an introvert (such as the May Dip). Though I know it is not mandatory to partake in them, if it isn't my thing is there large amounts of peer pressure?

1.

Since the university campus is rather old, do things break down all the time? How are the dormitories and facilities in general?

2.

Since St. Andrews is a rather small town, do you get bored of the place quite easily? Or is it relatively easy to travel to other parts of Scotland/the UK/Europe?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

1. Don’t worry about the May Dip. It is a fun tradition but no one is going to peer pressure you into it.
2. I stayed in DRA and it was pretty new. My ex bf lived in Melville (I think?) and it was nice. Other than that, I can’t offer much else.
3. I never got bored but when the wanderlust took me, I found that Edinburgh was easy to get to. I even found a nice hostel in the city.

I hope to see you there!
