Financial hardship fund query

Hi,
So I know it’s getting to Christmas so I wanted to ask how long roughly it will take for financial hardship forms to be checked? In addition, I also wanted to know if the outcome of the financial hardship fund will impact the current entitlement I will be receiving for my undergrad. I suspended my studies last year so I was overpaid, this is being taken off my current loan. My question is that if they decide to not give me the full amount with the financial hardship requests. Will I still receive the maintenance loan either way? Based on my individual finances etc.

Hi Star,

You'd still receive the scheduled maintenance loan on your entitlement letter (if that's what you mean). Regarding financial hardship, it's currently taking an estimated 4 working days (not including weekends or holidays), from when evidence is received for this to be processed. Thanks, Jason

Hi there,

Can you please tell us on what date you uploaded the Hardship form? Or, did you need to post it to us?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Graeme I submitted online through the upload portal on my account I received a message on Sunday telling me to resubmit the form because I left some parts out. Now my entitlement fund has been amended as I am only in uni from jan 2025, so because of the overpayment I have been left with virtually no student loan. Not even a preferential number objectively nothing to get me through university so my query is what am I supposed to do if the Financial hardship is not approved.

Hi Star, from the submission of the latest hardship evidence, this is currently taking an estimated 12 working days for review and an update can be provided after this point. Thanks. Stephen.

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for the help, I wanted to clarify if when SFE approves your application and defers the overpayment whether you receive the full loan you are entitled too need on ur parents income not a deducted amount: on my account its not showing the usual loan I get or does it work differently if you’re starting the academic year in January.

Hi there. The overpayment deferral would only remove the amount that was being clawed back and bring your entitlement to the amount that you should be entitled to for the year. If your application was already income assessed for the higher amount then this is what it would return to. Thanks, David

Hi David,
Thank you for explaining but I’m still confused as to which one it would be. Because first I was due the higher loan then the deferral lowered it. So am I only getting some of the loan regardless. I was told financial hardship awarded full loan overpayment deferral but the system still shows claw back. However, I’m not being told which figure it is meant to be. If the figure that is on sfe is currently correct is there a way I can request for the usual full loan I would get. As it is no where near enough.

Hi there,

Just to confirm, did the Hardship team agree to defer the full overpayment to the next year?

If so, can you please tell us when they told you this?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi they deferred the overpayment until the end of my course as I’m in my final year. And they told me this on the 10th of Jan.

Thanks, it's definitely worth us checking this, just so we can be sure that the entire overpayment was deferred, not just some of it.

Can you try sending us a live chat on your account? One of our team will be able to help.

Thanks, Graeme
