Hello,

Thank you for your question, this is a very good question. I am unsure of any universities which are known for bullying but each university can have a different atmosphere which work for different people, hence why it is so important to go to as many open days as possible.

For instance, when I visited the University of Leicester for the first time it felt like home and family because everyone was so friendly and helpful, saying hello and making sure you were OK. In contrast, some other universities didn't seem right for me.

Going back to the bullying part, at the University of Leicester we have so many different support services which can help students whether that is with bullying or mental health difficulties as well as so much more. We therefore try and take bullying very seriously.

When researching universities you should research what support services they have available.

If you have any further questions about anything at all or would like further details on the support services available at the University of Leicester please let us know!

Hiya!

Honestly this is a really valid concern! I would say that university is massive, and nothing comes to mind when I try to think of universities that are reputable for bulling because of this. I think in all cities there are both lovely people but also people who are unkind. I think if you are worried about bullying/harassment at university - definitely do look into the support systems that universities offer  Such, as, does the university have a reporting system? What is the policy when students harass others? And what kind of emotional/wellbeing support can the university give you? Its quite important that the universities you apply to takes this kind of thing seriously, as it usually means that it is not tolerated on campus.

For example, Cardiff University have lots of ways you can report harassment. You can get support through the disclosure response team, and get proper advice. If it relates to your accommodation, the residence team might be able to help you swap rooms, if there is space. And the wellbeing team at the university tend to be quite responsive and helpful.

I hope that helps

Hi there,

As others have expressed, there really aren't any universities that come to mind that are well-known for their bullying. Of course, some will have unkind people dotted about but as a whole, kind people are everywhere.

It would definitely be helpful to visit the university if you can, as you can get a sense of how you might feel in that community. It might also be helpful to use a feature a lot of universities use, called 'Chat to a Student'. Many have it on their websites, and it allows you to learn a little more about individual experiences from people who currently go there themselves.

Learning more about a university's support system and activities you'd want to get involved in is also important. Creating a community and sense of belonging will ensure you meet others you enjoy spending time with, and can definitely reduce the amount of unkind people you encounter.

Here at Chester, we have many resources in place to counter bullying. The Student Assistance Programme is available day and night, and other resources like counselling and the wellbeing and mental health team can provide you with confidential support and advice.

I hope this helps,
