gap year after year 12

i’m currently taking a gap year after year 12 and will rejoin next september for year 13. does anyone have/know any stories of being in this situation?

I've heard of someone who did it and was pleased to have done so
You don't have to give details or reply to this but do you feel comfortable sharing why you are taking a gap year here?

I never knew taking a gap year after the first year of A-levels were a thing, only knew you could take them before attending Uni. That's interesting to know.

mainly because i burnt myself out far to quickly in y12 so by march time my mental health detoriated and i ended falling significantly behind in history and chemistry. in my year 12 summer mock i got a D in history and a U in history so over summer i worked hard and brought my chemistry grade up from a D to an A when i did a resit in y13 but however i neglected history. this meant that i couldn’t catch up three months of content in time + majority of my coursework so when i rejoined i practically couldn’t continue the course as (50% of my a level was gone) and history led me falling behind in all subjects for my november mock revision. i was exhausted and in a mess so i had to do what was best for me.

Where was this knowledge when I was doing my A-levels? 😭😭. I was in a similar position and mindset to you back in Year 12. I am so glad that your sixth form were understanding enough. So I'm guessing your starting Year 13 in September 2025? What course are you looking to study at Uni, or do you plan to do something else? How is your mental health now? Are you doing better?

hey thanks for responding!! yepp year 13 again in september!!! i’m currently predicted AAB (the U in history was discarded by my history teacher bc i got an A on the other two history mocks) so could’ve applied for pharmacy this year but i would have most definitely failed the real exams bc i was far too behind and missed the coursework deadline too. my mental health is definitely a lot better. a break from education was definitely needed. it’s just the constant worry of forgetting everything tbh but i have 9 months so i should be good. just need to find more effective and efficient methods so i dont burn myself out again!
