Work experience

I’m currently in y12 and have not found any wex. I want to study medicine and I’ve applied to multiple hospitals and all have said they don’t accept any volunteering due to not enough space or not accepting someone under 18
I’m based in the West Midlands any advice !

You should ask your school or college to organise on your behalf if you’re under 18. You will be considered for wex through your independent efforts once you’ve turned 18, as there are legal stipulations that hospitals must safeguard you and their own legal obligations.

try volunteering at care homes or charities, wex doesn't have to be in hospitals.

This isn't true.

I volunteered for a Care Home and did virtual WEX with BSMS, Observe GP and Medic Mentor. I've gotten 4/4 interviews this cycle.

Unis acknowledge than WEX can be difficult for some and easier for others to get (people w/ doctors in the family) but there are many virtual WEX out there you can do to gain insight into medicine.

Nope, didn't pay for anything throughout the whole med application process (Except for Medify).

I wouldn't recommend paying for anything apart from medify / medentry , all the recourses you need are free.

I just did BSMS, Medic Mentor and Observe GP (all virtual and free) . I didn't really talk too much about them as the Care Home Volunteering I did was my main talking point. An example of what I said was "I watched a consultation between a doctor and patient about diabetes …. I could see how the doctor was able to use symptoms to come to a diagnosis whist also addressing the patients worries with empathy ". Just give examples, and what skills you saw.

The amount of WEX is irrelevant, unless a uni is asking for a specific amount of time (none I looked at mentioned this but cant say for sure for all.).

You can find a copy of the ISC medical interview book online somewhere, that's all I've been using for my interviews this cycle, and youtube videos.
