Personal Statement help

Heyy guys
I’m in Yr 13 and I’ve been doing my personal statement for the last month now and it’s pretty hard to get my mind wrapped around it. So I’ve already done a draft and I’ve included my interest/passion for accounting and finance, talked about academics, super curriculars, extracurriculars and then concluded with my future goals. However I’ve talked to my counselor and she said I’m missing a key point/small paragraph on why I want to do this course but I don’t get how my interests and future goals don’t showcase why I want to do A&F. Is there something specific I have to mention in order to state why I want to do this course.

Hey @Ashwinii

I can see you have a good draft for your personal statement! I believe it will be worth you to put in some of your related accounting and finance experiences! For example, working somewhere during summer holidays, doing a work placement or having a meaningful conversation with someone who inspires you! Other than that, I think you have covered essential elements of why you want to pick Accounting and Finance so I think it is perfect! 👍🏻

Just remember! Always emphasise 'yourself' don't be over-descriptive! The university uses your personal statement to know more about you. You can always mention something first and elaborate on how it is related to your choice to choose the subject or why you believe you can perform well in this course! 😆

I hope my suggestion makes sense to you and wish you all the best for your application!🍀 Merry Christmas 🎄

Best regards

Hi @Ashwinii,

I see you have already had an excellent response!

It's important to create a clear link between your experiences, education and interests to the university course. This way your motivations are extremely clear. Make sure when your describing your experiences, your specifically linking it to your interest in A&F. You could do this by creating connections to the content you will learn within your degree, the skills the degree will give you, career paths from the degree and your passion for the subject.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (Business and Management)
