Hi, I'm yr13 and did AQA but did AS first year and got an A in both paper 1 and 2. I can't lie sometimes im still shocked as I was predicted C (I did get B's and a few A's for paper 2 practice questions but only C's in paper 1). I am however, predicted an A and have gotten an A and B in my most recent essays - still waiting for mock results though. For me, there isn't really a structure as I was told at the start of AS as I always loved being given a structure however, sadly A levels isn't the same and are very different. However, this is what I tend to do:
PS I HAVEN'T COMPLETED ALL Y2 CONTENT - I've just started child language acquisition and language change, nothing else as the rest has been course work.
Paper 1:
This isn't really the paper that I like as I hate having to spot grammar and stuff however, a big tip is to only find things that you're confident in e.g. nouns, adjectives etc. it's okay to not look for sentence structures (I completely ignored this in my as paper as I am terrible at spotting them and in class, I would guess by how many commas 😂). Once I've spotted the things I split the paragraphs into categories so the types of verbs would go in one para and nouns in the other etc. I also include an intro thats extremely brief saying text A shows the meanings and representations of.... this is done by... I don't include a conclusion
Paper 2:
An intro that's like 5ish lines maybe a little more that kind of takes a societal view but also links to theorists e.g. The notion that women play a subordinate role in conversation to men is apparent in the text and life. However, with society changing and adapting, gender roles and norms are changing. Linguists such as Judith Butler (1990) have proposed the idea of gender performativity which refutes the notion whereas linguists such as Zimmerman and West support the notion. (this was marked as a L3 intro from my as script)
I then tend to do two paragraphs in support of the question (if data is provided I use that) a tip that I think is extremely useful is to link theorists together that support very similar ideas HOWEVER don't shove a bunch of linguists into one paragraph.
After this, I tend to do 2 refute paragraphs if possible that argue the question but also what I've stated in the other paragraphs.
Then I do a conclusion.
Please let me know if you need anymore help 🙂
