History degrees with archeology electives?

Hi,

I’m currently studying History, English lit and Biology A-levels.

Although I hope to study single honours history at university, I’m also interested in archeology. I know UCL allows history students to take archeology modules without having to do a joint honours.

Does anyone else know of any other universities that do the same? Should I email universities I’m interested in to find out?

Just to clarify, I don’t want to do a joint honours because I don’t like the idea of only doing half history modules. But, I’m interested in taking one or two archeology modules out of interest.

Thank you!

I think most universities will let you take electives outside of their key modules. I know Durham definitely allows you to take archaeology electives without doing joint honours. Take a look at the unis’ undergraduate module handbooks; they should tell you more information (ie. Compulsory modules).

Hi @Daisy._.7777

I recently did my undergraduate degree in Archaeology and Anthropology at Southampton as a Joint honours. At Southampton a lot of the humanities subjects are intertwined and you will have some available to you and can request to do some of those modules. I would have a look on the website to see how it all works.
There is also a thing called auditing, this is where you take modules but without credit so you do not have to do assignments but they show up on your transcript that you attended this module, this is an option you could look into as well.
I personally loved my joint honours degree as I was able to tailor it to exactly what I wanted to study. If you are worried about it being too much archaeology I would check the website which will explain exactly how many modules you take, which are compulsory and which aren't.
I would definitely recommend reaching out to Southampton and see if this is something you would find interesting.

I hope this helps
Feel free to ask any further questions I would be happy to help.
