LOL I think you miss understood. No one told them universities would contact him, we advised he called the universities and asked about clearing places and also know that it absolutely and totally allowed

No one is speaking about poaching applicant from another university. But a applicant can certainly contact any university and say there grades, ask whats available and then if the university would say they would consider that applicant they if they wish to risk it can reject their offers and apply through clearing to that university. Which is TOTALLY allowed 😆

If they can get a written agreement I totally agree but at least have them say on the phone if not written but, it is NOT against the rules for a university to talk to a student who applied and has offers elsewhere if that applicant contacts them.

See the UCAS business rules. If a university doesn’t keep written records of clearing enquiries then they are forbidden from talking to applicants who are placed elsewhere.

not if they have not accepted the offer they are not. Anyway this is not helpful the applicant will find out themselves, Wont affect them in anyway to call and find out XD

The business rules are clear. If an applicant has a firm choice a university can only speak to them if:
- the applicant contacts them
AND
- they keep a written record of the conversation

A small minority of universities don’t keep records of clearing calls. In those cases the university is forbidden from talking to an applicant who is still firm elsewhere.

Those universities that DO keep a written record should have no issues with sending an email with details of an informal clearing offer. So there is no need for OP to rely on a “verbal” offer before giving up their firm choice.

Although ideally the applicant will have followed the advice in post #6 and added the university as one of their 5 choices instead of relying on clearing.

Hi, say i got my results and got the grades for a uni i applied for e.g. brunel but i have better grades and i want to try get into a better uni e.g. southampton. Should i go through clearing or adjustment and what are the differences if i want to apply to a relatively new course called mechatronics in the better uni.*

Hey 🙂

Great to see you're considering Brunel!

You can hold your place on the day - ring us up and then release your place if you want to apply for a different course through clearing,

Hope that helps,

Thanks everyone, just one more thing. When you apply through clearing or maybe over the phone, does the university check your personal statement or are the grades the only thing they are interested in.

It depends on the university

Once you add a clearing choice it will almost certainly be looked at
