Deferred university entry

I am a year 12 student starting to look at universities for my application next year. I have decided I will be taking a gap year in order to work full-time to gain work experience and be a bit more financially stable during my studies. I will be applying for deferred entry so I can still apply with my current college next year, and have a reference from my tutor. However, I am looking at applying to Oxford due to it being suggested by my previous school, and they do not accept deferred entry unless there are extenuating circumstances, which I do not have. So, my questions are:

1. If I were to accept an offer with deferred entry next year, would I still be able to submit an application to Oxford the following year without having to cancel my offer? I would obviously cancel it if I were accepted but I do not want to cancel it too quickly in case I am not accepted.
2. Would I be able to reuse the reference from my tutor in the Oxford application, despite it being a year old? I would be applying for the same subject so the reference realistically wouldn’t need changing.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

No, you cant hold a deferred place at one Uni and also apply to another one. You would need to cancel any current place to apply to Oxford - but you could also reapply to the Uni where you cancelled that place, there are no guarantees of a repeat offer, but most Unis are sympathetic to this situation. You also need to think carefully about what you think 'going to Oxford' is actually going to get you, and why any other Uni isnt going to get you that. Be realistic - you don't some out of Oxford (or any other Uni) with a barcode on your head that guarantees you a great job or a happy life. Another Uni may have the right course for you - or be a better environment.
