GCU Child Nursing

I’ve applied to do Child Nursing (starting September 2025) and was just wondering if anyone could give a rough idea of what a typical timetable is like while on and off placement? And also if anyone has any tips for the interview stage (praying I get one lol).

Thank you

You'll be probably in university doing your studies weeks for around 7 weeks roughly from about 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday ( you have to complete 37.5 hours per week) , it's possible that you might be doing some homework learning ( roughly 2 days a week and 3 days at the university itself) you'll not going to know exactly what the timetable for 2025/26 is until you receive it just before you start your coursework.

Your placement hours are approx 12 hours shifts ( dayshift, Nightshift and weekends working - obviously it could be various days spread out or back to back days as it's depends on how you are rota on your shift pattern - this is hospital wards), in community and outpatients department placement you are generally working the GP practice opening hours - 8am - 6pm Monday to Friday but you have a day of during the week plus free weekends and outpatients department works similarly to GP practice okay.

Just make sure you have researched and studied everything you have to do for your interview ( if you have been given information from the university about what you are to do for your interview then make sure you thoroughly understand it by researching it all as this is what they will asking about at the interview. Try not to be nervous.
Research the NMC code of practice, the 6 C's of nursing, NHS core values.

I haven't studied at Glasgow Caledonian university for my degree as I have done my midwife degree over at Edinburgh Napier university, I am back in my own city of Glasgow working as a registered midwife as I have been qualified since summer 2019 .
