Please help me find a monologue for school scholarship audition?

I'm applying for a musical theatre scholarship at the sixth form of the school I already attend, and I have to perform one song and one monologue. They don't specify contrasting but it seems like a good thing to aim for. My singing teacher has already helped me pick 'Not That Girl' from Wicked to sing, which I love, but I'm so stuck finding a monologue. The thing is, I always feel stilted and pretentious performing classical monologues, and we rarely ever do classical plays at school anyway. I also haven't yet found a more upbeat/comedic monologue (to contrast the heartache-y yearning feel of the song) which allows for at least a small range of emotional expression- a lot of them seem quite bland. I have my audition at the end of January and really need to pick soon. Any help greatly appreciated!

Hey lovely!! I haven’t go loads of recs but I can give you a couple ideas!! I don’t think you should feel pretentious about doing a classical speech at all, I personally think it’s quite a statement to do one. One of my all time fav Shakespeare pieces is Phoebe’s speech from As You Like It (‘Think not I love him’) - it’s super comical and quite simple to follow and get around the language. It’s a great speech to use to showcase physicality because you can go quite bold with your movements. It’s maybe slightly overdone but all Shakespeare pieces are to be honest. A contemporary piece that I also love is the opening monologue from BU21 by Stuart Slade (the character Izzy) - this speech is very sad but you can play it in a way that is almost funny. She is sort of making light of her situation and almost using humour as a way to hide her grief until it suddenly hits her at the end. I really really love this speech because you almost draw the audience into this false sense of security by being a bit comical and then you really hit them with the reality of the situation. Those are two of my go two audition monologues so maybe give them a look if you haven’t already - best of luck!! 🤞🏻🫶🫶
