Restarting my education - Alevels

Hi all,

Last year i completed my GCSES, and i didn't do great due to being in a horrible living situation. I got placed in a course i didn't really like due to my lack of grades (and for some reason they wouldn't let me retake english/math during alevels), so i got placed on a Diploma course doing something i don't even like.

I got out of the bad situation this year, and i've been continuing to study this course, purely because i've been zoned out/dissociated, trying to preserve my mind. However, i've decided that i'm going to redo my GCSEs, get good grades, and hopefully go back to college and do alevels in Biology, Chem and Psychology- which is what i originally wanted to do to get into Med school. I'm incredibly determined and my GCSEs were predicted high grades.

I'm unsure if this will work out, if it's even possible for me to join a new college this late. I'm sure it'll be fine, but i was just wondering if anyone has gone through a similar path.

I haven't gone taken this route myself. However, I have friends/classmates that did this.

It's definitely worth resitting the Gcses especially if you want to go to med school. One of my friends resat their exams privately and not at a school/college as they were also not allowed (by college) to do resits alongside their level 3 courses. They basically had a gap year after school, then started college the following year.

Also I think resits are taken at a particular time of year? So either in November or in the summer exam series.

Thank you. I really appreciate the advice. I think i'm going to retake GCSEs privately and then do Alevels privately too.
