Essex or Wolverhampton

I'm going to do a top-up business degree and these two are my only options so could you guys give me your opinions? Me personally, I might prefer UofEssex which is online but UofWolverhampton is in person and has a faster track, could finish in 8months. Not sure if it's worth it still, please share your experience if you have one.

Hi there,

I don't know much about either university or the course you are interested in, but I just thought I'd let you know about a resource that might be of use!

Many universities have a 'Chat to a Student' feature on their website, which allows you to talk to those currently studying there. It can be super useful to learn more about a course, accommodation, sports/societies, or personal experiences.

I hope this helps,

Hi there!

There are a couple of things to take into account here, that I personally don't know much about so can't give advice, but just want to make sure you thing about these things before making a decision!

Wolverhampton:

Will you be able to commute here or would you need accommodation? If so, could you get accommodation for just 8 months or would you have to pay for a full year of rent despite only being there 2/3 of the year?

Would you definitely be able to do the fast track? (is that the only option or is there possibility of it taking up to a full year)

Would spending a year at Uni near the campus with in person lectures and meetings, spending time with friends you meet on the course etc, be more beneficial to you than working online?

Essex:

Would you be spending as much time working on this degree at home as you would in person? - I personally do more and better quality Uni work when I actually head onto campus as I get distracted too easily at home, would this be a possible issue for you especially if the whole top up is online?

Do you think you will receive the same amount of support with an online degree in comparison to in person?

Would you still need to come into Uni for a few days a semester for meetings/tutorials/exams? If so, what would that commute be like, or would you need to arrange for hotels etc?

I hope you think or have already thought about some of these logistics, as I think this will help you make the decision! Good luck with whatever you decide to do

If I had to choose, I’d lean toward Essex simply because the environment feels a bit more vibrant and connected, especially for students who want a mix of academics and a decent social scene. Wolverhampton has its strengths too, but Essex tends to offer a broader experience overall. In the end, it depends on what kind of atmosphere you want from your uni years.
