Unhappy at university midwifery

Has anyone left midwifery at the end of year 1 to restart year 1 at another university. I'm not happy at my current university and have faced bullying in practice so want to leave. I'm in London. If I reapply and join another university do universities frown upon it

You'll probably find that there's some sort of bullying going on at nearly every hospital in the UK.

The university you want to go to must be able to accommodate a place for you but they will want to know everything about why you have chosen to restart your midwifery degree at another university. ....

You might just be better to continue with your midwife degree at your current university consultant you have completed year one out of three years..... If it was a particular placement that you were getting bullied at then it is not worth changing, as you do have unfortunately good and bad placements everywhere...... I have been there as done a placement in first year at a maternity unit and a staff member was being very awkward about everyone but I knew reporting it wasn't worth it because they favour the qualified staff over students first every time but they sent me back to the same place at end of my second year and they did same thing again but I took it into my own hands and dealt with it outside of work and after that they never did it again.

Give it a very good think over first and then go and see your university course leaders and placement officer to discuss your concerns about this okay.

They want to put me on a plan think their intentions is to not allow me to qualify. I agree with everything you've said though but I want to go to my dream uni prefer to face whatever there rather then where I am

I was put on a plan because I complained about being treated badly and yes your right they sided with the midwives over me. I'm unhappy at the university so want to move to a new one and start again

Yes that is what they usually do side with the qualified staff as they are apparently more trustworthy than the students which is totally wrong.

I would consider still if you aren't allowed to go to another university ( or if the other universities you want to go to don't accept you) to stay where you are or perhaps change courses to say adult nursing.... Remember it's up to your other universities whether they offer you a place but try them to see how it goes okay 👍 👍 👍.

You might be thinking wrongly about " them trying to not allow you to qualify" but that's something that both of us can't answer for sure...

The only way you won't qualify is that you fail some of your placements or exams ( you are in control of your exams as you obviously have to write the answers down and then it is marked), the placements on the other hand is outwith your control because you could be brilliant throughout it but your mentor/supervisor maybe fail you because you complained about the bullying etc....... making sure you complete everything that is required is your first priority ( 2300 hours of placement, and 2300 hours of university studying - total of 4600 hours), if you did miss some placement hours then you'll get a opportunity to make up those hours after discussing it with your university leader and placement officer and then they will arrange to sort it out for when you can do them.

Thanks for agreeing with what I said to you previously because it does happen everywhere you go.

Thanks Tracey_W for your insight. There are only two students myself and another student going to that hospital. This student worked there for 5 years previously before joining the course we are both on and is bad mouthing about me to the mentors and community teams I'm working with. She's messing up my progressing as she has already planted a bad imagine in my mentors before I even start. I have an university interview next week so I'll see how it goes hopefully I get offered a place in a university who has a larger cohort. Thanks again wish I had spoken to you before starting

Hi hashim2

Thanks for your reply again

I actually find what you have said and shocking because I think they are trying to buy over the mentor etc so they can perhaps get any opportunities of future employment when it comes around. And yes the one previous who worked there as a ( HCA) probably is trying to be bossy over you, because of previous 5 years of working there.

I hope that you put yourself over well enough for the other university you have a interview with next week and yes hopefully a larger cohort which will be beneficial to you as well getting to know more people.

Like I said previously to you about staff picking on me I waited to the right time to take revenge on her ( under she landed up with broken wrist) because she thought I was a softie but she didn't know that I was a black belt in judo, she got what she deserved in one way but not having a long term absence from work wasn't my plan.

Awe that's nice to hear that you wished you had spoken to me before starting, but that's something you didn't know about when you started.

I'm here to help you if you need it 💓 💓
You can always PM me anytime.

Keep me peeled okay 👍

Will do, haha need to learn Judo. Good for you for getting revenge. I'm an amazing midwifery applicate I have two years volunteer experience myself on neonatal, antenatal labour and postnatal wards. I love midwifery so so much done conferences too in midwifery. Midwifery is my passion and soul. Compare midwifery to a holy profession biggest midwifery fan and applicant you'll come across. Will let you know the outcome next week fingers crossed it's a yes 😊. But good on you, I'm a private person don't like too much interference in my studies and feel this student is affecting mine badly so think it's best I move to a larger cohort. 😁should learn a tip or two from you 😂🤣

A few broken wrists are in order I think 😂🤣I will never leave the profession just want to move as even at the hospital the midwives are even spying on my meetings to inform the other student so it's really bad. She's been told what I said and what the other professionals said. It's worrying and abnormal so think it's best to move

Hiya
Unfortunately I condeem violence but it was just a accidentally accident that happened because of the way she landed on the pavement but saying that she shouldn't have egged me on for a fight and bragging about how easy she was going to beat me up which I thought okay try if you are brave enough. She tried to impress a couple of her little puppies ( to you it means few other qualified midwives) but backfired on her part)- at least she didn't have far to go to A&E , a investigation took place eventually but nothing came to it as too many staff members supported me over her which was surprising.

You know I hate people like those you have talked about because what does it achieve 😔 😔 💭 nothing really but they think they are better than you still but they forget they were students not so long ago themselves.
They have nothing better to talk about except gossiping about someone else rather than getting on with their jobs that they meant to be doing.... If I hear anyone talking about someone else I pull them up to let them know that I am watching them.

To be honest sometimes knowing simple self defense stuff would be useful for people like them if you have to use it.

With what you have said about yourself with experience you would certainly make a wonderful midwife when you qualify as it's people like you who the NHS needs in the job.

I hope you are successful with getting into somewhere else for to complete your degree as you thoroughly deserve to get the opportunity ❤️🙏.
Yes I am a tiny bit private myself when I was studying my midwife degree as I wanted it badly unlike some of my younger cohort students who weren't to much interested in it as only wanted to go out clubbing and drinking nearly all the time. I would only go out for a night out when I was bang up to date with all my coursework, i even held a part-time job in a big supermarket throughout my midwife degree ( was full-time in supermarket but went part-time).

Sometimes being in a large cohort is beneficial as you get to know more people unlike if it is a very small cohort ( remember that cohort sizes depends on how many people that the universe take on ).
We have only 3 universities in the whole of my country of the UK that does midwifery degrees with a total of about 250 places each year split between the 3 universities which isn't a lot.

Haha learn a few tips or two from me - you'll soon learn those things yourself ❣️ ❣️ ❣️.

Keep your fingers crossed 🤞 🤞 as that is all you can do and see what happens afterwards xx

Funny that lots of other people said that about me being amazing 🤩 🤩

Occupational health can recommend things but the university you want to go to has to be able to accommodate you (they have to have a place available because they will have already the allocation of student for the nursing courses) - you'll be probably asked why you want to move hospitals and university if you got a transfer to another hospital within the health board you are under would you be happy with that insurance if changing universities or are you actually wanting to move to a completely different university and start fresh. You don't want to be doing first year again.
