Hey seashadows, sorry can't help you with your question, but did you go to either of the applicant days and IR talks? If so what you think?

I don't know if any of them have baths, but all the self-catered flats I've been to had showers.

All of the self-catered flats have freezers.

My building had baths - Warrender Park Road.
It was a bath with a shower head above it.

Everywhere has freezers, I do not understand how some universities expect their students to be self catered and not provide them with a freezer!
I'm pretty sure most have baths or bath-showers(all the ones I've been into and accommodation services claim that they do - not that that's entirely reliable as a source).
I've applied for accomodation in the self-catered flats. (all shared bathrooms). I was wondering if the individual bedrooms have a basin in them.

Ta!

hey again!
yeah I was there on the 18th - if I wasn't excited before I am now!
the course sounds pretty much perfect...the amount of diferent options available in 3rd/4th year was brilliant - one bum point was that you can't do a joint degree, too bad.
did you have your intro talk thing in mcewan hall because we did and i could hear almsot nothing during the Q&A session - liked wandering around the buildings and seeing the whole place though - squee! excited?
Hang on...damn it, can't find the comment...did you say you were goign to edinburgh, as in conditional or unconditional?
I'll be moving to Edinburgh with my family to start an MSc. I've been allocated a 3 bedroom flat on Blackett Ave. I chose it because it'll be close to my son's (2 years old) nursery. Does anyone know about these flats and can comment? I'd like to know what the flats are like, laundry facilities, noise, neighborhood, etc. Thanks.
That's me sent my accommodation application!

Do any of you Edinburgh folk know anyone who stays in McDonald Road? It looks really nice but I've not seen it mentioned here at all.

Hey, one of my friends got put there this year due to Edinburgh running out of room.
It's very nice, rooms are a decent size with en-suite, kitchen area big enough for 4/5 with sofas etc - also a tv (although I don't know if its the tenants or unites...!)

A bit of town though from George Square, probably about a half hour walk or something, maybe 20 minutes if you walk fast - but lothian buses 7, 14, and 49 go from st patrick square/nicolson street (right next to george square) down to McDonald road.

Its about 3 minutes away from the tesco express and a few pubs etc,

Hope that helped somewhat!

got an unconditional, you? Yeh I went to the mcewan hall talk on the 4th, such a brilliant building. Went to the IR talk on the 18th though, the second session. Thought the lecturer was really nice and the course looks sooo good. did u go into the chrystal macmillan building like the ir building? its really nice and brilliant view of the castle, plus its ryt next to starbucks which can never be a bad thing.

Has anyone been inside Warrender Park Crescent? What's the size like? Is it modern or old? I see it has parking, it there many spaces? How does it compare to Darroch Court?

Mine did, as did most of Nicolson St.

Huge hallways and giant windows on the stairways. Nice big windows in the upstairs flats (not as big as they look from outside because it's been remodelled to become the flats). Tiny windows in the basements. The furnishings are probably from the early 90s in some flats whereas other flats will have been refurnished in the last couple of years (dependant on how previous owners treated the place, where they are in their renovation cycle, etc. but this is the same for all university owned accommodation). This is one of the places where there is a huge difference between a normal sized and a large room - some of the large rooms are massive, possibly 5x4m rather than 2x4m - but I'm not sure how many of the absolutely giant rooms there are outside of the basement). I never counted the parking spaces - but it's never full. And it's similar to Darroch in that it is owned by the same landlord who kits out all its flats in the same way. It's different in that it has a very different location, it's not a purpose built accommodation building so it has funny shaped rooms and has some odd quirks inside, but also some lovely large wide hallways and space to gather/meet people inside whereas Darroch being purposefully built the way it is doesn't have odd bits of room left over from something else and has lots of clean lines, etc.

hey, is self-catered any less sociable then catered? & which works out more expensive?
