No, it's fine to leave that out. But let me assure you that you'll lose friends fast if you do decide to smoke indoors. James in room 4 made that mistake and made enemies out of the rest of us pretty quickly.

ohhh i definitely do not want to smoke inside or be somewehre that smoking is inside, which is why i didn't want to put i was a smoker so i wasn't in a smoking flat. does a smoking flat mean that people are allowed to smoke in it and do they usually?
sorry :o:

I have accepted an unconditional offer to study Medical Sciences here in Edinburgh! I've also been told that I'm able to get accomodation due to my "LEAPS GROUP I" status or something, which is brilliant.

Anyone else here? Even though I'm from Edinburgh, I'm more worried about knowing no one here than like, in Glasgow, because everyone I know going to Uni is going out of the city!! :frown:!

Congratulations/Consolations to everyone recieving/not recieving offers and accepting them!!

okay i have a query! i applied for accomodation (self-catered) more than a month ago, and I got a confirmation email from the uni back. however on my EASE/euclid account under the accomodation part it says no student record can be found. i don't know whether that thing is important or whether you have to do anything/apply for anything on it. i havnt used it at all. am i meant to be? does the 'no student record' thing matter?

More or less everyone is going to be in the same position when it comes to knowing people. There are two people I know going to edinburgh from my school to do different things from me. I wouldn't think it would matter that much, just make the most of the accommodation and the people there with you! I hope that make sense, the rambling in my head before I typed it did :woo:

Also, bit of a tangent.. do you know where the medical science course is taught, just being curious

I would say no it doesn't matter, I know that the accom services have my application, but it doesnt show on MyED for me either

Yeah, I know everyone'll be like that, but I'ma stress/complain about it anyway :p:

I'm not entirely sure where specifically it's taught in terms of buildings, but I know its a course covered by the medicine faculty~

I'm exactly the same. I wouldn't worry about it though, you will meet so many new people.

You're lucky for the accomodation! I'm on the waiting list for mines

I've just firmed Ed and thought I'd apply for accommodation ASAP. So I've read through the entire thread, but I haven't encountered anybody raise this issue. I will be a Molecular Biology (second year entry) student.

If I'm not wrong, the first year classes are basically held at the KB. But what about the second year classes? I tried looking through that maze which they call a website, but to no avail.

So my question is where will the majority of MolBio classes held? If KB, then should I rule out the accommodations at the opposite end, namely Robinson's, Darroc, Morgan's etc.?

All the lectures and most of the tutorials and practicals will be at KB. You don't have to rule out living on Cowgate or near there, but I'd say that it's nicer to live somewhere like Sciennes, Warrender Park Road/Crescent, Pollock and around that area if you have to go to KB every day. Just a shorter walk, that's all.

Thanks for the reply. Wouldn't a longer commute everyday be inconvenient? Do students do this?

(Oh, and this is the girl who PMed you asking about direct second year students. As you can see, I've accepted my offer )

Cool. Edinburgh's a nice place to study in, and the city is awesome. You won't regret your decision.

It's only about a 30 minute walk from George Square to KB, and you'll only have to go to KB once a day most of the time so it's not really inconvenient at all. You'll get used to it quickly. Also, living around the central uni area is a lot nicer socially speaking, as opposed to living in the residences near KB.

Ah, no... it's true love :-)

Thanks for the input. I was bummed about being limited to ones near KB; well, not anymore.

Check out the University of Edinburgh sub-forum, they should be able to help you, plus the wiki here is pretty good on Edinburgh.

Hey there! I've been accepted into Edinburgh for an MSc in Sound Design! I'm on the hunt for a place to live for the year. Anybody here interested in renting a house or flat with me? I'm 27, don't smoke, bike, and I play the upright bass.

I'm done! Warrender Park Crescent, East Newington Road and Sciennes 2 are my final choices. I'd recommend everyone to take a look at the choices through Street View before putting them down.

Edit: Typo.

Look on the EUSA forums (Ed Uni Students Association) as there are loads of students there who are looking for flats/looking for people to fill rooms in their flats. There are a fair few post graduate groups which form together from there I think. I already have my flat for next year, sorry

Thanks a ton! Perhaps we'll meet up at some point and clink together a glass of scotch.
