Same situation, does this leave us with no chance of self catered?!

You can come and borrow our cooker in darroch court

But yeh I would be really annoyed if I was put in catered so I know how you feel.

Pretty much .... basically if we want to live in uni accomodation then thats what we're going to get because of high numbers of applicants etc. I'm thinking about private but Edinburgh is notoriously expensive i think.

Did you get the email or did you just get an offer of accomodation?

privates actually usually cheaper than university accommodation, gumtree is a saviour for students! have a look there

I feel sorry for you though, that's just making people not want to go to edinburgh.

Mmm... Private would probably be better then, but its not real ideal for first year as i don't know anyone doing history or even going to edinburgh yet. Oh well, i'm sure it'll be ok, afterall its not the most important thing. I must admit though... if i'd known this would happen when i applied, it probably would have influenced my decision...
The other suggestion is as has been posted before by telling a white lie such as you have to get up early or you play an instrument or some other excuse why you might need a room on your own, worth a try?

I also heard there may be more places in November time when people drop out/shuffle around so it might be a case of putting up with it for a few weeks/months and see if you can get moved.

I have'nt actually sent my accomodation preference in yet!

It's only my insurance but it's looking pretty likely where I will end up!

Ah, so there are no self catered left already?! ouch....

Meh, sucks that does!

I'm not too sure tbh.. i just got an email tonight about it. I haven't applied for accom. yet either but they said thats my only option. Maybe they've just randomly selected people? i have no idea. If you didn't get the same email then maybe its different....
They gave me accommodation which was more expensive than what my 1st choice was and I emailed accommodation services saying that I thought I would really struggle paying the extra money, and they still wouldn't change me... silly bunch! They did say that after 6 weeks in the accommodation they give you you can swap, as lots of people drop out or want to switch aswell.

Nope, thats what the email implied....

'As a result, and with some regret, we have to advise you that, if you are successful in obtaining a place at the University of Edinburgh for September 2009 which you then accept and if you have already applied for University accommodation or intend to do so before the deadline of 16 August 2009, then you will ONLY BE MADE AN OFFER OF BUNK BEDDED CATERED ACCOMMODATION AT POLLOCK HALLS'

doesn't look too good...

'
Orite so have you actually made an accommodation application?
wait how much do i need to pay for that ****** location? (The bunked catered hole)
I'm really annoyed. I feel like considering clearing...

I just got the email I'm so angry, Edinburgh's my insurance but it's very likely I'll go there as my firm's AAA :|

If there was two things about accom I'd want to avoid it's catered and shared! I won't share or have catered so it looks like I'm definately not going to Edinburgh :frown: I'm so bummed out!!

It might sound silly but accom is really important, I would hate to be cooked for for a whole year and share a room with someone I might hate, it's really wrong and the accom system needs reviewing big time! It's ridiculous that people in Edinburgh who firm it will get the accom they want whereas people from outside edin who insurance it are screwed.

yep it's really bad that they've done this, it clearly hasn't just happened this year, people should be made aware of this sort of thing. do you think there'd be any value in arguing a case? i'm really funny with foods and i'm fairly private :/
