hey, i have been made an offer for accomidation a good while ago, around a month but i only noticed it now. is it possible that my offer may have changed? i will only be able to check it on monday because the thing is down!
However, my sister's friend who lives in edinburgh says the Meadows are pretty dodgy! But I have to walk through them to get to lectures and to the unions and stuff.
Howdy neighbour! Flat 3 for me. I have no idea what the layout of the place is like, I'm assuming we'll be on the ground floor?
Yeah i think we should be near the ground. I have no idea either what the interior looks like, here's hoping its decent! No doubt we shall bump into one another at some point
Am I the only person who specifically applied for a shared room? It's just not a big deal to me. I've shared rooms plenty of times before. Plus, the difference in price is more than worth it for first year.
I can understand if you specifically wanted a single room and weren't able to get it, but why is it such a nightmarish thought to have to share a room? In the US, it's expected that Undergraduate university students do.
The single room, self-catered accommodation is £80 a week - bunked is £120. It's definitely not cheaper!
I'm just used to privacy when I sleep and study - I can't concentrate with other people about.

Please tell me she's exaggerating!
The Meadows aren't dodgy. It's a big park, but there's only trees of any kind by the sides of the paths so you can see the whole thing by standing in one spot. On top of that there's always a lot of people walking through it, especially till the library closing time (midnight), and when the pubs close and then again when the clubs close. There could be more lights I suppose, but all in all it's fine to walk through it by yourself. The only time I've been creeped out by the Meadows was really early one morning when it was all foggy. And if you live in Sciennes walking round the Meadows isn't usually that much trouble in the first place, if you prefer it that way.

What about walking through it at 3am after a night out?

I think it's fine. That's when the clubs close and there's a lot of people crossing the Meadows at the same time, especially on the couple of the paths that go through the middle of it. I've never heard of anyone I know or friends of friends etc get in trouble on the Meadows. Just don't leave the paths in the dark if you're by yourself.

Apparently there's quite a few muggings in the Park though. One of which happened on the middle path (whatever it's called). I remember reading it in the scotsman I think.
Anyway, I prob won't walk through it myself at stupid o'clock.

Yes there are but aren't there anywhere? Edinburgh is an incredibly safe city and pretty much every single student in Edinburgh either lives or spends an awful amount of time in Marchmont/Sciennes whilst they are a student there. This means that each year literally thousands of students make the decision to live in this area of town, if it really were this unsafe as your sisters friend had made it out to be do you think people would actually live there? It isn't a case of cheaper rent as Marchmont is a little more pricer than other areas such as Newington, meaning people make a decision to stay there because they WANT to... if the Meadows were unsafe people wouldn't choose to do this. Wherever you live in Edinburgh you will spend many a night wandering drunkenly across the Meadows as they're right in the centre of a student's "city map".... you'll either be walking across drunk back home from a night out at a club, or walking back drunk from a party in a flat in Marchmont. And believe it or not you're not going to be the only person out there - the Meadows are often as busy at 1:30am and 3:30am (aka just after closing time) as they are during the lecture change over period during the day.

Okay, I haven't heard ANYTHING from accomodation services. Applied two months ago and got the conformation letter and everything. Just checked my email, and MyEd- nothing. Should I be worried..? (Edinburgh is Conditional, Firm for me).
Edit: Just noticed the accomodation channel. But it's down?! hoping I haven't missed an offer... :|
If you're a conditional you won't find out where you're living until after results day. They don't make any offers until you're unconditional, so you'll find out in the last week of august/early september. All of the hype at the moment is relating to unconditional offer holders, and those with conditional insurance offers. As you're a firm conditional you've got nothing to worry about!
--- If you've not already please read the info on my first post about getting private accommodation, bunk bed people... it's easier than you think!
Sorry to bother someone with this question as its probably bein answered a hundred times but when are people actually moving up there accomadation in September early or just before freshers????
Grr.. I want to know where I'll end up! Any Internationals/EU applicants know yet? At first glance it seems to me that only UK people are getting their reply so far.

Can't remember where I read it but you'll get your keys on Saturday the 12th of September so you can't move in before that.

I'm an EU applicant and I know this girl from Spain who's got her offer, too
