I am going to be offered one of the flats owned by the uni:

'Your offer, when you receive it, will be for one of two properties in Edinburgh owned and operated by a company called UNITE; this company is a significant national player in the field of student accommodation and we have been fortunate to source a large number of rooms from them, better enabling us to manage this additional demand.

The accommodation you will be offered is based on single study bedrooms, on a self-catered basis. You will share units mostly occupied by other new UG's at the University; if not, then by similarly aged students at other Edinburgh institutions'

Is it bad? I mean, I've looked at these flats and they are expensive, but does it worth it or would I find better flats at the same price in private accommodation in gumtree or similar?
Also, I dont want to share with freshers, and it seems it'll be.

Ah the university is going to lease from UNITE again. Erm, I would accept unless you really hate them. You're going to get what should be top notch accommodation that usually costs a fortune at a reduced and subsidised price. Why don't you want to live with freshers?

ehh, I am an exchange student, and not the age of freshers. I'm afraid that private flats would be perfect to have a party every night, and I dont know if I want it. I'd prefer other kind of student to have more in common.

These flats are usually single sex or they are mixed?

I wouldn't worry about living with freshers. They don't party every night, and not all freshers are 17/18 and being 18 doesn't mean being immature. A lot of exchange students end up enjoying living with freshers and anyway it seems that exchange students have a way of finding other exchange students to form groups with and they end up hanging out with them quite a lot. Like nearlyheadlessian said the accom you're being offered will be good value for your money as you won't be paying the full unite price. I'd advise you to take it.
does anyone know when they will actually send the details on payment for accommodation.i.e like i arranged by direct debit by semester.they said they will contact me but i still see pay your accommo fees by full in the myed(yep i did email then about it a while ago).still they have not got back.
When I accepted my accommodation I had to pay a deposit then was taken to a page of different option, I selected payment by 10 monthly dd's, entered the bank details and they sent a confirmation?

congrats to everyone who got in, wondering if any one is still waiting for gcse results to find out for definate if they are in to edinburgh?
also i dont have any letters confirming my accomidation or anything even though i applied in march i think, is that normal?
Accomodation can be a last minute thing, i would think with confirmation that you have been accepted onto your course the accomodation situation will move fast - contracts etc.

Flat 7 Room 4, Sciennes 1
It isn't what I applied for but I'm definitely happy with what I've been given. Although I did look here and it said that Sciennes 1 was 'not available' for 09/10, although are Sciennes 1 and Sciennes 2 in the same building anyway?

Also noticed the insurance policy, we are covered for laptops and computers if they get stolen or accidental damage? That seems really good?

It's not that unusual - everything IN your room is insured. You aren't insured to take a laptop out of the room so you will need to arrange that yourself.

Are you screwed if you miss the 7 days? I have a friend also going to Edinburgh and they've gone on holiday for 2 weeks and I've got no way of contacting them
