I’m afraid of being in a taxi by myself

Soo, I am afraid of being in a taxi by myself. I’m a 25F and would rather walk, take the bus or use an e-scooter home than get into a taxi with a complete stranger. My fears of this, started when I was like 17/18, and ever since I’ve been out with friends and family, I have avoided going home alone via a taxi. It’s gotten so bad that I am fearful of my sister who uses them everyday, and even at night!!! I could never.
I am in the midst of learning how to drive, as it would save the hassle of relying on public transport when I’m out. I have also persuaded my sister to learn how to drive too, but she isn’t interested and would rather spend £15 everyday on a taxi journey.

Does anyone else have similar fears to mine? I am so afraid of something bad happening to me when I’m in a taxi alone. I have read and heard stories of terrible things happening to people and can’t shake this feeling of it happening to me or my sister. In situations I can control, I can easily get off the bus if I want to, and with walking? I can run if I need to, but in a taxi? You’re doomed.

No, I don't have similar fears. But I'm a 35 year old man. I would say do whatever you feel comfortable with. If taking a taxi is too scary then don't take one.

tbh statistically buses are more dangerous but i know what you mean.

consider using a pink taxi instead of a regular taxi if they are available in your area - they have female drivers only. also, always have something on you that could potentially be used as a weapon

I feel that way too sometimes but for me it's because I look young for my age and I still look like a kid. I don't wanna risk putting myself in danger because they think I'm just a kid.

In certain situations, you don't really have a choice but to get the taxi though so make sure you're prepared in case you do need to get one. If you're getting an uber, I'm pretty sure you can share the drivers profile and your location with others just in case. Also you can try carrying a self defense keychain with you.
