Help in OCR A level Computer science

Hello, I am finding computer science very difficult, i hadn't studied it for GCSE so I guess that adds to it. I wanted to ask any one who got A star in CS OCR what they did and what sources of content they used. Currently im trying to do flashcards using PMT, save my exams and craig n dave as I find it difficult to understand the concepts at first. Alot of the times the mark schemes are different and just by using what they say I might not get full marks on a question so im not sure what to really do. I would really appreciate if someone can give me tips on what to do

Heya,

I did OCR A Level Computer Science a couple of years ago so am happy to help

I definitely remember the mark schemes sometimes being awkward or vague and struggling to remember concepts.

My best tips when it comes to revising is to do what works best for you. I found that making mind maps and drawing diagrams to be best in visualising ideas and getting notes down on a page. Also talking through steps and processes with friends or family or trying to teach or explain to others about how things work was a really good tip.

I also spoke to my teachers regularly to try and understand what they thought I could do better and the best resources they suggested to practise and learn. Nearer to the exams I tried to do lots of past paper questions and examples to really understand how the exam would work. Then in the last few weeks before the actual exam, I just watched videos, rewrote notes and did a few last minute practise questions.

Hope that helps -- let me know if there is anything else I can help with

Hi i got a A last year (4 marks off A* which could've been achieved if i put more effort in my NEA), check out my TikTok APstudy got some resources on there and give me a Dm on tiktok if you would like access to all my resources im giving away (i used anki flashcards). The CS flashcards are on my 4th video, the tiktok account has a mix of both my economics flashcards and comp sci ones so might be a lil confusing to navigate.

Definitely try CS Master on the App Store. It’s got great flash cards which are focused on the exam content and useful tools for binary and data structures.

I use the resources you've mentioned to build knowledge and then blurt as much as I can remember about a topic in a mind map or on a whiteboard. After that, ppqs are most important so you get a feel for the markschemes. If you're struggling to understand concepts, ask other people in your class because at the end of the day, they must have learnt the same things from scratch at some point.
