Help Me Choose: Biomed at Roehampton, Westminster, Brunel, or Kingston?

Hi everyone, I’m deciding between Roehampton, Westminster, Brunel, and Kingston for Biomedical Science as my second and thirds options. How has your experience been, and what advice would you give me? im choosing theses uni as i don't want to commute outside london.

i would have gone for brunel and westminster as i really love the modules they are offering but brunel isn't accredited and westminster is ranked really low and i have read some not really nice reviews. i would appreciate your opinions thank youu. also recommend some other unis as well near london area. thank youuu
Not Roehampton or Westminster - they have no specialism in STEM subjects.

Hey!

I think I replied to this on another thread but just to let you know - The Royal Society of Biology has awarded its accreditation to all of Brunel's biomedical sciences undergraduate programmes. This means you can be confident that our Biomedical Sciences BSc will prepare you for the working world!

Good luck with your decision 🙂

So - the important thing is to consider if you want to be a biomedical scientist. In the UK biomedical scientist is a protected title and can only be used by those registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

To get that in the UK, you need a degree that is IBMS accredited (or you need to submit your degree to the IBMS and do any top up modules they require. This can easily cost £10-15k and isn't covered by the student loan).

RSB accreditation doesn't really mean anything, so isn't something to worry about. If you don't want to be a biomedical scientist then the IBMS accreditation doesn't matter either.

Of the ones you've listed, Westminster is by far the most central. Their science campus (they have STEM specialism, not a clue where the first poster is getting the idea they haven't) is based near Tottenham Court Road. My memory of Kingston is that it's not that easy to get to by public transport but if you're driving and live in South London you may not mind that.

Hi @zizi_2

It's great to hear you are considering Roehampton as an option for studying Biomedical Science.

Our Biomedical Science programme is accredited by IBMS, this means that when you graduate, you will meet the academic qualification requirement to become a registered Biomedical Scientist working in NHS Pathology laboratories.

Concerning your commute, Roehampton has great transport links, we are a 22 minute direct train from Waterloo station and we also have a free student bus service running between campus, Barnes station and Putney Bridge. We are a campus university, meaning everything is in one place, saving you money and time!

If you have any other questions, I am happy to answer them for you!
