Unis for Physics

Hi I’m in year 11 and I’ve been thinking recently about university. At this point I’m fairly sure I want to study physics and I’d like to look into different unis for related courses. The schools which I really like the sound of so far are Oxford (main goal) and Bath, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me some other schools with good physics courses so I can have a look at them.
Have a look at physics rankings published online to get an idea. Imperial, manchester, durham are a few that spring to mind.

Rankings will give you an idea of what exists but shouldn't be looked into too deeply. They are liable to change quite randomly.
When I applied, it was for Cambridge (for natural sciences), Imperial, Birmingham, Warwick and Southampton.

Thanks for these I’ll check them out too. Do you mind me asking where you chose to go and how you found it?

I got offers for all except Cambridge, chose Imperial as my firm (which I got into) and Southampton as my insurance.
Half my time at uni was impacted by coronavirus, but other than that, I enjoyed my time there. I'd say the main strength of it was that the department's quite large and covers a lot of different areas of current research so you have plenty of choice when it comes to projects and optional modules in the later years. My main gripe was how long it took to get feedback on work. I also wish there was more small-group teaching; there is some, but not much.
Hi there!

Lots of great Universities offer BSc Physics courses, so whilst looking at good ranking Unis I would also recommend checking out module content to see if the focus of the degree would interest you and also check out locations - you may want to specifically go somewhere more North or more South or close to your home area - also if you want more of a campus Uni or city centre

If astrophysics is of any interest to you -->
Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool run a joint degree in BSc Physics with Astrophysics that's really cool and worth checking out! I'll add the link below but I'll just add a few key points:

Affiliation with a Russell Group Uni

UoL scholarships and bursaries available

Field trip to an observatory in Tenerife during 2nd year

Eligible to join the Institute of Physics and get Chartered status

Entry requirements - ABB with Maths and Physics subjects taken

Liverpool is a great place to live as a student!!

BSc (Hons) Physics with Astronomy | Undergraduate course | Liverpool John Moores University

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Sinnoh, you seem to have a broad knowledge of UG Physics programmes. What do you think about UCL? Cannot find lots of information about career prospects and student experience there. Would be grateful for your opinion

I can only speak from my own experience, I don't know anyone who does/did physics at UCL and I probably wouldn't be able to tell you anything that you wouldn't be able to find online somewhere.

That's what puzzles me. I can find quite a few stories about Imperial Physics, but not UCL. Students at UCL Physics seem to keep to themselves.
