HSPS Cambridge admission assessment

I’m interested in studying HSPS at Cambridge and have been looking through their admission requirements. It says that only a small few colleges require an admission assessment for this course. Is there any benefit for your application in applying to a college that requires a test? Also are there any places to find past papers of this test so I can make a decision? Thank you in advance

it gives your application no benefit if you have good grades. you may wish to apply if your GCSEs are on the lower side, as predicted grades don't matter and all unis assume grade inflation. you can find past papers online just by searching, but colleges do them slightly differently.

Like any part of the application process, it depends how well you do in it. It's just another thing that adds to what they can assess you on.

Theoretically, if you think you have a perfect application, all 9s and A*s, fantastic super-curriculars, outstanding interview skills etc, then an admissions test might not have anything of value to add.

But if you think some part of your application might be relatively weak, and you back yourself with the style of the admissions test, then it could be the vital tipping point in your favour.

You have to consider that a College will only bother with an admissions test if they find them of decent value in helping identify the right applicants. They are a faff to manage administratively, so they must be considered valuable.
