Should I get a hearing test?

I am unsure whether I should have a hearing test. For one I just feel two young and nervous to go on my own despite it being the only option. Also feel that I would be out of place.

If you are worried about your hearing, of course you should have a hearing test...

Checking anything about your health can't do any damage. Hearing, eyesight and dental check ups are important, especially if you feel something might be wrong.

Don't worry about it! If you feel like something is wrong with your hearing, you should absolutely get it checked out. People of all ages can have hearing issues, so don't worry about feeling out of place

There's all ages at ear test places, sure it's mostly old people but there's young people as well and the tests are really quite simple.

Thank you for your response, is this something you have experience with?

Yeah I've had quite a lot when I was young and some more recent, I've had them in a hospital setting so it might be a little different but if you have any questions I'm sure I'll have an idea!

Thank you that's very kind, do you just have hearing difficulties or something then. Because the other problem for me is whether the difficulties I have are normal or not.

I had glue ear as a child which just meant I couldn't hear as well as I should have. More recently I've just had non ear related health issues but I had to get an ear test at one of my Dr's appointment due to balance issues and a near constant ringing/buzzing but that didn't end up being ear related.
If you have difficulties they are very likely not normal but they also might not mean a problem in your ears so getting it checked out is best.
What problems do you have if you don't mind me asking?

Oh ok, I think I may have had glue ear or something like that when I was a child as well. No I don't mind you asking. Here's a list of the main problems I experience:

Ringing in my ears, particularly in quiet environments

When people talk sometimes, I will hear the beginning and end of the sentence but the middle just sounds like mumbling

When people whisper to me, again it is just a load of noise/mumbling and I can't make out the words

When in environments with lots of background noise I struggle to hear conversations

Sometimes I just repeated miss words which people say to me during conversations

Thats just some of the things which are regular, on a less regular basis I have a terrible problem with wax buildup but I suppose I just manage with that and its not the biggest issue in the world.

So I'd say you should go get an ear test or go to the Gp about these because that's not normal but that also doesn't sound like issues with your actual ear but with the connection between your ear and brain (I have similar with my eyes) this is of course a really uneducated guess but the human body is meant to run with no issues so deffinetly get checked out. I find if I go with an actual written out list I find it much less stressful

Thank you for that advice, it's greatly appreciated. I'll think about going at some point.

Is this a new development as well? If it is go sooner because degrigation of your hearing could mean something more.

I have finally been for a hearing test at Specsavers! Apparently I have a rather "significant hearing loss" and will most likely require hearing aids. I have been told though that before they help me I need to see a GP which is really very annoying! I'm considering options which may not require a GP!

PSA for anyone else who's reluctant to go for health check ups: just fricking go, no excuses!

Did you do that test? How did it go for you? I have to admit, I went through two different hearing tests myself one before and one after an ear wax removal doctor . The difference was pretty surprising, because after the procedure the results were much better. It really showed me how something as simple as a blockage can affect hearing so much. That experience also made me realize it’s worth checking the basics before jumping straight into hearing aids or other solutions
