SQA Higher Modern Studies: ESSAY HELP PLEASE!!

Hi I’m taking modern studies this year and it is becoming very stressful and difficult. As the problem, is how do I memorise so many essays? I don’t know where to start and my teachers at school are no help with the essays at all.

So I was wondering if anyone who had taken or takes higher modern had any advice on how to revise the essays effectively that would be so helpful. :smile:

I got an A in higher, my teacher advised to focus on remembering you knowledge marks/statistics because if you have those down then you can formulate them into an essay by just using PEEAPEEAL, I have a doc that my teacher made of past essay questions and general guidance I can send you if you PM me like a school email?

Hi, I’m doing higher modern studies this year. I used find it difficult revising for it however I always start with memorising the examples as you can always make an analysis on the spot in the exam. Make sure you master how to structure the essays and link back to the essay question at the end of each paragraph. For the 12 marker I usually do small PEEAs ,I sometimes stick to doing 4 of them however my teachers says it’s best to add a couple more to get full marks. I would say time urself doing each essay and see how long it takes you. It should take you 41 mins to do a 20 marker but If you can quickly to your 12 marker then you should be fine spending more time on the others.

I would suggest making flash cards and mindmaps ,I used these techniques and they work well. My teacher also said that you could record yourself saying all your examples and then listen to them. I did this in the prelim and it got me an A.

if it helps, we got told that at minimum we could memorise 12 essays, meaning that there would be one guaranteed to come up but we wouldn’t get a choice of which essay.
