Second Term Tips📚

Hey guys, with first term done and dusted and second term well on its way I thought I’d pop on here with some tips and tricks that might help with the transition.

Tip One: Coursework Deadlines

I know this may seem a little bit obvious, but it is so important to make sure that you’re managing your time well. I know how easy it can be to leave things until last minute because sometimes life just gets in the way, but for some of you this will just create worry & anxiety that with the right planning and time management, can be avoidable. I’d suggest popping your due dates on a physical calendar so you have to physically see it, and then on the same calendar in the weeks leading up to your due date id pop on what you’re hoping to achieve. For example, you may write down 4 weeks before your due date you want to complete your introduction and a paragraph of the main body of work. From experience, this has helped me keep myself in check when it comes to assignment deadlines.

Tip Two: Accommodation

If you’ve found yourself in a situation where you’re not comfortable or settled in your current accommodation, now would be a good time to get in touch with the university support teams to see if there’s any way you can transfer accommodation. In addition to that, although it may seem a million miles away it’s important to start thinking about securing a house/flat for second year now. Have a look around with your mates and get excited about making your house a home!

Tip Three: Support Services

If there’s anything you are worrying about whether this be struggling to find part time work, struggling with the academic nature of writing/referencing or finding the transition from being with family and friends at Christmas to being back in a different city away from all those people trick, please just ask for support. Student services are trained in all of these separate areas and they will be safe places to air any concerns you have. It is absolutely okay to need a little bit of extra help sometimes, and it is even more okay to ask for it.

Hoping everyone has had a lovely Christmas and New Year off.
Thanks,

Hi!

This is really great advice! Going back to uni after the novelty of first semester has worn off can be difficult, especially as things begin to gear up for the next year, so it is a good idea to get organised during the break and consider where you may need some help, or prepare for the following year.

I also recommend setting yourself a budget for the next semester, this is something I have found particularly helpful and makes the next semester go smoothly.

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂

Hi there,

These tips are fantastic!

I'd recommend making sure you keep a balance of hard work and relaxation. Make sure to take that break, whether you want to nap or go for a quick walk. A great balance has the added benefit of increased productivity too!

Getting back into the swing of things, especially after a break, can be hard. It's important to keep deadlines in mind, do your best, and look forward to the warmer weather as it nears. This time will fly by faster than you think!

Best of luck,
