LearnDirect Access to HE

i’m currently doing an access to he course with learn direct - part of the assignment submission process allows you to send a draft of your assignment to your tutor for feedback before formally submitting. i did this with my most recent assignment and despite the fact that i amended my assignment in line with the feedback given by my tutor, i still received a merit. whilst looking at the feedback it seems i fell short of a distinction due to something that she did not even mention to me when reviewing my draft.

i’m really upset as i always strive for a distinction in my assignments as i need a fair few to be able to get into my chosen uni (nottingham) and so i always take on the advice given by my tutors. it doesn’t feel fair that they can pick and choose what advice they give me and then pull me up on something that was never even mentioned :/
just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with learn direct or any other provided and what they did to help the situation??

I feel for you!

If you believe your work was graded unfairly, you can request a reassessment. To do this, you'll need a clear and detailed explanation of the grounds for challenging the grade.
If you're unsure how your work was graded, ask your tutor for a breakdown of the grading criteria.
You can find the appeal process under "Get help -> Our Policies -> Learner Policies -> Appeal Procedures." Make sure to submit your appeal within 10 days of receiving the grade (although the handbook mentions a 7-day window, so double-check).

Unfortunately, I don’t have other suggestions. The grade descriptors are vague, and tutors don’t seem to provide clear guidance on achieving a distinction.

hiya!

yeah i did appeal, they ended up losing my appeal and i had to chase them up a few months later but once they actually got round to sorting it, it was relatively straight forward. they reviewed my coursework and called me to explain in detail where i’d gone wrong and whilst they didn’t change my grade i received an apology from the tutor who marked it as it was flagged that her marking was not up to score and the assurance that her marking would be looked into. good luck i hope your appeal goes well!! learn direct can be a bit of pain but finishing my access course was so worth it!! x
