Optometry 2025

Hey!

I applied to do optometry at City, City foundation, Cardiff, Huddersfield and ARU.
I recently just got 2 offers from City and Cardiff, my top 2 choices !

Has anyone else got any offers from any of these?

If anyone has any questions, I'll be happy to answer.

Update: I now have 4 offers !! Got 2 more from Huddersfield and ARU 😀

Thank you! I sent my application off on the 16th of December and they sent me a fee assessment questionnaire to do which I did. They checked that on the 2nd of Jan and I got my offer 🤗 So around 2 weeks.

Thank you! I sent off my application on the 16th of December and after some fee questionnaires from both unis I got my offer from Cardiff on the 2nd of Jan and then City on the 3rd of Jan, so roughly 2 weeks.

With Cardiff they say that there may be an assessment such as an interview however they didn't ask me for one and gave me the offer straight away thankfully !

what did you do for the fee questionnaire? Also, I'm doing btec applied science (no a levels and im applying for foundation year at cardiff) so am I more likely to be called in for an interview? Do you know the reason why they didn't give you an interview? x

Hiya!

Honestly those sound like really great work experiences, well done! I would say if you're looking for something to guide your personal statement, I recommend looking at the university's page on writing personal statements. They also have a Personal Statement Planner (found on the page) which can be really helpful in knowing what kind of things to write!

The fee questionnaire was regarding whether or not I am a home student or international. For it they made me confirm a bunch of details ie. my passport, where I've lived etc.

I don't know much about btecs but looking at the entry requirements you require DDM in a BTEC RQF Extended Diploma in Applied Science with Distinction in each of the Core/Mandatory unit for foundation year Cardiff Optometry. As long as you meet this and all other entry requirements + have a good personal statement I don't see why you wouldn't get an interview/offer.

No idea why they didn't give me an interview but I saw only one person who got an offer online without having an interview as well so I'll consider myself lucky.

Although I didn't have any work experience related to optometry, I did have work experience at a pharmacy just like you and also did volunteering at school. So definitely include that as it links with optometry. I also included the roles I had in school e.g I was a Senior Prefect at my school + how I spent life outside of school also mentioning any podcasts that I had listened to or MOOCs that I had done.

Bio is such a mood killer fr. My predicted for bio is at a C currently and that’s the only grade that’s putting me down 😪😪

No frr 😭 There's sm content and it's acc killing me-
Have you tried asking your teachers to move your grades up? One of my friends went from a grade C to a grade A predicted in bio due to her recent mocks so it is possible as long as you can prove to them that you can do it.

If your teachers don't listen you can try speaking to your head of year instead as well because that's how my chemistry grade went up from a B to an A.

Where have you applied?
