Has anyone completed their Ulster interview for Primary PGCE. I am feeling very uncertain of what to expect for the numeracy/literacy test so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Hannah!!

Hi!

Thank you so much for the link - I’m sure it will be helpful. I have seen someone comment from a previous year that the tests are similar to 11+ papers, so I have also been having a look at previous past papers.

My interview is on Wednesday. Best of luck during yours!!

Best of luck to you too!! It's very nerve wracking especially with the competitiveness. I knew one girl who previously got in and she said after her maths test she was asked to explain her answers so watch out for that to! Very easy to do in your head with no working out.

Oh my goodness extremely nerve wracking and especially when you’re unsure on what to expect 🫣 I suppose the email is helpful in regard to what questions to expect during the interview. I just hope I know how to complete the questions in the maths test lol - thanks for that tip though!

Hey!

I thought this may be helpful as it expects us to explain our answers and leaves space for us to do so; therefore may be similar to the format on the interview maths test.

Just wondering, are you anaswering all these questions with ease. I really do struggle with some of them.

No, I have had zero clue how to do some of them, therefore learning how to do them all over again. I don’t remember primary maths being so difficult lol - or it could just be the wording of some questions.

I had seen from another university chat that the maths test wasn’t a factor if you would get in or not, but if it was evident that you struggled with something that you would receive extra learning or classes on it. So hopefully this is the case with UU but I’m not sure.

How are you feeling for tomorrow?

I'm the same- have been revising fractions all day and to tell you the truth the chances of me remembering it are 0. I really hope that is the case however I do doubt with Ulster they'll put you through it without using it. The maths is so so difficult, it has actually made me feel pretty stupid- hopefully they will be kind and not try to catch us out.
Interview wise I feel pretty okay and do have a bit of confidence because I've done a couple now, some for overseas as well- mainly just these tests.
I will let you know what is like anyway. Wishing someone from today will have a post up but with the competitiveness seems everyone is in it for themselves. Have the rescue remedy ready to go lol.

I’m the same, last year I had applied overseas so done a few interviews and accepted a place with LJMU but I found it really difficult to get a house therefore I thought I’d apply home this year. So I think I’ll be fine with the interview questions too - to be honest I have spent most of my time trying to learn maths again, still doing it now tonight, so I feel exactly the same as you! There is just so much to learn again and to remember 🫣. Just be sure to show some working out even if it is the wrong answer, I can remember in school you would get a mark for just doing some kind of working out lol.

I know, I have been commenting on loads of posts on this but no one has got back, even if it was a small piece of advice it would be helpful. It can be so nerve wracking so some advice would definitely put us at ease a little.

I just watched their primary PGCE interview on YouTube - it’s quite helpful in regard to qualities they expect to see from us. If you have a look if you haven’t already, they could be useful mentioning during the interview.

Hey!
I’m actually not too sure, it hasn’t said anything on the email. Maybe just bring a form of ID just in case.
Best of luck for tomorrow!!
