URGENT: interruption of studies

Due to personal reasons I feel as if I want to interruptmy studies and repeat my second year.

I previously studied at a different university for a termso have lost my additional ‘gift year’ of funding.

I have evidence for compelling personal reasons togain an additional year.

However, I am unsure how it works. Would this meanI get an extra year so I can resit my second yearAND still attend my third year. Or would this mean Ihave to self fund my final, third year of university?

Does this mean I would have to pay my tuition fee forterm 1 of year 2 upfront? Or would this just be addedto the overall debt?

I understand I would not be receiving a maintenanceloan during this time, but would I still be able toreceive one for my remaining years (repeat y2 andy3)

Thank you!

Hi there,

So you have only had one year of previous study at a different university and this would be the 1st time you are repeating on your new course? Would you be resitting the full year?

Thanks, Drew

Yes. I have had a term at a different uni (so used my ‘gift year’) and then I have completed Year 1 of uni. I would want to resit Year 2 due to health reasons. I have done one term of Year 2 so far.
Hi rebekahlowles24,

Thank you for confirming. You would be eligible for funding for the duration of the course however, any repeat years you self fund the Tuition Fees or you provide your Compelling Personal Reasons evidence.

Thanks, Clare

Okay. So if I were to provide CPR evidence for this situation (Sep 24-January 25), this would enable me to be able to resit year 2 starting September 2025 and also do year 3?
Hi rebekahlowles24,

Yes, that is correct. You can upload a cover letter now to your account advising that you wish to apply for the additional year under Compelling Personal Reasons, along with your evidence to be reviewed.

Thank you. And I would still be able to receive maintenance loan for that 2nd and 3rd year?
Hi rebekahlowles24,

Yes, it is only the Tuition Fee Loan that is affected by your previous study. The Maintenance Loan and grants are only affected when you hold an equal level qualification.

Thanks, Clare
Would I be expected to pay the current tuition fee I have used upfront straight away? Or would this just be added to the overall debt?
Hi there, no, as you would still be within your studies. However, any overpayment would be required to be paid back as quickly as possible. Thanks. Stephen.

Hi, what is meant by overpayment? Is it that I would have to pay back the first terms tuition fee? Or would I not be able to get that first term back in the future. I’m so sorry just confused

Hi Rebekah,

An overpayment is any maintenance loan that was overpaid to a student. This is dependant when a student withdraws or previously suspends. The fees are a separate source of funding. Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason,

As I have completed first semester of y2 uni and therefore the first maintenance loan, would this be classed as an ‘overpayment’? Would this be taken away from me in the future when I returned to study?

Also, as I suspended on health reasons, would I be entitled to the additional 60 days of funding for maintenance loan? I’m taking it that would not be taken away from me when I returned to study?

Kind regards, and thank you again,
Rebekah

Hi Rebekah,

If you suspended at the very end of the term and haven't been paid since then this shouldn't result in an overpayment. If it's a health suspension that the university have sent through this means you're awarded an extra 60 days of funding from the day you suspend which would be paid to you during this academic year. Thanks, Jason
