Is a Comptia A+ Certification Worth Doing?

So I have graduated from university 20 months ago now. I have found it tough to get my first graduate job. I really want to work within IT Support as an IT Technician or IT Engineer, and I know the CompTia A+ certification provides that pathway. Is it worth it? I know it’s a silly question but I just want to know the benefits a-bit more and I just want some advice please was anyone in the same position?

Hi there,

My name's Ilya, a Cyber Security third year student at DMU.

I am myself currently studying for Security+. Generally speaking having a certification is better than not having one. However, work experience is genrally much more important than certifications. So, if it's going to be your first IT job, A+ will not harm you as it teaches you a lot of really important concepts. And it's still sometimes present in job descriptions as well.

P.S. The only downside with A+ (in my personal opinion) is its price. But if it's not a huge obsticle for you, I would go for it.

Take care,
Ilya

Thanks Ilya. If it’s the work experience that I’m looking for what would you recommend please?

I did it when I was 18 and it made no difference whatsoever to employment prospects. It was easy, too easy in some ways, and I never felt that it was particularly rigorous. A waste of money for me, but this is 20 years ago so maybe things have changed.

Thank you I appreciate your advice and it counts. Well I just got to try professional networking then like LinkedIn to be honest. But I’m losing hope and I feel like a failure 😞
