Hi
No employers won't look down at you because of your age okay 👍.
Depends on where you work then workload varies.
Apply for jobs via the retailers on website for a good chance of getting a job offer.

Here is one for you to start with - with boots you'll have to do a online profile - basically it's all your personal information, follow the instruction on this and when you have completed it you can then search for jobs in all the boots stores within your local area you stay in. The pay is great for a 16 year old as starts from around £10 a hour, there's others jobs available in supermarkets, McDonald's and KFC, but it depends on what you want to do.

The process for boots is you do your online profile and job search, then if they are happy you'll probably be asked to do a online assessment ( very easy to do as questions are based on real life situation in stores - you pick options ( follow the instruction given ok ) then if you pass this you'll be invited to a in-store interview with the manager usually in which you'll do a question and answers session then something on the shop floor and then some more questions at the end, then you'll have to wait for outcome.

Kindly tell me what 16 year old has experience working in retail or any work places, you'll probably find hardly none.

Work experience you could ask around local care homes, hospitals and see if they have any weekends volunteering ab as this would give you something. There's probably other places you could ask.

Considering the legal minimum wage for your age is about £6.40 per hour then I would think getting a minimum of £10 per hour upwards from boots or other retail places is good for your age.

I would recommend perhaps working weekends ( Saturday and Sunday) boots actually give you this option as part of applying for jobs with them and you can pick what hours you want to do ( all the instruction is on the job application when you are applying). Although you might ask for weekends only beware of you perhaps getting offered alternative hours but be careful what you get offered just to allow you time to get home because of school following day if doing during the week.

I started at boots when I was just over 15 years old ( yes they employ young people from that age) and I used to do Saturday and Sunday and also Friday afternoon after school as had half day on Fridays and during the school holidays I would do extra days. I have been with them for over 11 years now and it's a great place to work in.
I only work part-time with them as I have a permanent full-time job I do which takes priority ☺️ ☺️ 🙏

Obviously I would certainly apply to other places at the same time and see what comes up for you. You'll find Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons and Asda offering you a 12 week probation period and then after that you may be offered a permanent job with them.

My 17 year old has worked for McDonald's for a year and a quarter now.

The pay is decent, what more can I say?

In terms of work experience, even doing a virtual work experience with Springpod will do at your age.

Most shops, supermarkets, fast food places, cafes, restaurants, cinemas, local attractions etc etc will take on people from 16. Some might also require you to be of school leaving age though (i.e. the end of june in year 11).
Look on jobs websites such as indeed.
Look on companies own websites. Some companies (e.g. mcdonalds, tesco etc) have their vacancies ont he careers section of their website.
Look in shop/cafe/restaurant windows. Some places have posters in the windows advertising vacancies, especially smaller companies. And the posters usually tell you how to apply.

My first job was at mcdonalds.
Ended up there for 9 years on and off (part time, full time, one day a week alongside other jobs etc).
They take on a lot of students and are very flexible.
