Can you join multiple societies at university?

I want to go to Southampton university, but an answer from anyone who is/has studied at university would be helpful.
I was looking to join cheer and dance but wanted to know if i am even able to join both?
Also what are the membership fees like?
Yes you can join multiple

Membership fees vary - sports which require facilities or equipment to hire or maintain will cost more. E.g. fees for a boat/rowing club will likely be pricey, whereas chess club doesn't have quite the same running costs.

You need to look on Southampton Students' Union website to see the full list.

I studied at Southampton a few years ago, if you have medical conditions I would think very carefully before applying - student support in terms of wellbeing was absolutely shocking
Yes you can join as many as you can afford/are able to "keep up with". Obviously they will schedule things independently so you may need to manage your personal schedule more carefully and might have cases where both schedule something on the same day and you need to make a choice between which you want to do. That's really a personal matter for you though. I suspect the kinds of people who join a cheerleading society are probably also often interested in dance and related things and suspect there may well be some overlap in membership between the two anyway.

The only way things may be restricted is that some SUs may have policies to restrict how many societies you can sit on the committee of (e.g. being a secretary/treasurer/officer of other variety) to ensure you can give due attention to your committee responsibilities for any committees you sit on. This isn't universal though.

Hi there,

I hope you are doing well! Yes you are definitely about to join both - you are able to join as many societies as you like! It is definitely worth having a look on the susu website where you will find all the information you need. There is a societies fair during freshers week where you can look at all the uni has to offer and can sign up to tasters and ask any questions you may have.

Hope this helps!
