Moving to Wales before starting uni - will this affect my student finance?
I'm aiming to start a Paramedic Science course next autumn. As I have studied previously 3 years and paramedic science isn't on the list of AHP courses approved for second degree funding, I was going to fund the tuition for the first two years myself and take the maintenance loan and the NHS grant.
My partner got a job offer in Newport, and if he accepts, we'll move to Wales in June/July. I was planning on applying to Swansea anyway so we're considering all our options.
My question is, if we move to Wales before I start my course, will I be able to apply for other funding (maintenance grant/loan, NHS grant) to SFW? The degree in Swansea has the option of NHS Wales Bursary to cover tuition fees but the rest is still dependable on Wales/England SF. Or do I still have to apply to SFE and get only the capped maintenance loan?

We'd be moving for my partner's job, he'd be on a fixed-term contract of 12 months and might be able to renew the contract. I'd most likely also try to find work prior to moving or if I wasn't able to work a substantive post, I'd work bank/agency (I work in nursing) in one of the Welsh health boards.
I'm applying for September 2025 so it'd only be 2-3 months before the course starts.

Hi there, If you are moving to Wales, and this is not for the purpose of study, then you may be eligible to apply under Student Finance Wales, however you will need to check their eligibility criteria for this. If you do not meet their eligibility criteria, then you would apply to Student Finance England as normal. I have provided the contact number for Student Finance Wales here: Telephone: 0300 200 4050.
