Hi @one-day-laurel

I remember doing this for my Art GCSE and my theme was 'working', which didn't immediately spark my inspiration but I got there in the end - so you've got this!

'Gathering' - could possibly be social gatherings, crowds of people, crowds of anything really, meetings or events - maybe there's a special event that's personal to you?

'Gathering' - to collect or gather things, perhaps? You could look at gathering and clustering objects together if you like still life, or maybe looking at gathering lots of things together as clutter or mess and this becomes a concept about waste or unwanted items or clutter. Possibly objects that are personal to you.

You could maybe look at 'gatherings' in terms of fabrics and fabric manipulation - which could possibly lead you into looking at other types of textiles related art if that's what you're into.

Just to get you started - but you could have a go at some word association to help get some more ideas. I used to start with my theme title in the middle and basically surround it with associated words and see where it takes me.

Hope this helps. 🙂

I still haven't received the ideas booklet but I'll probably get it next week but my class brainstormed a lot too and we had a really big range of ideas (a little dark at times lol) but I can list the ones I remember:

Cults
Serial killers - was mainly about Dahmer and how he hoarded the bodies of his victims although it might be a little too dark lol
A detective's board- the stuff they gather as evidence all pinned up on a board
Courtrooms- there are so many gatherings here whether it be people, opinions, stories, clothing etc
Libraries
Animals
Social media/Netflix/YT
Ikea- just lots of furniture, fabrics and the fact that each display tells its own story and has its own personality
Family
Hoarding/collections
Music

I actually think this is a pretty good theme after a lot of thought but idm talking more about it and giving ideas for different mediums and media that can be used (seaoflillies is my discord)

Hi, I've been looking up stuff on this topic too, haha, me and my friends were so disappointed in this theme, but i eventually found some things to put on my mind - map,

i written down things such as:

Collections (Family Heirlooms, Figures, Antiques, etc.)
Buildings
Celebrations (Such as parties or weddings)
Fruits / Farming (Gathering wheat and bunches of bananas)
Flowers / Plants (Bouquets, petals, bunches on flowers)
Crowds (Protests, Social Crowds, Audiences)
Animals
Meetings (Online meetings, business meetings, etc)
School (School assemblies, classes)
Vehicles (Car parks, car repairments, MOTS)

That's a little bit of the main stuff I thought of! (I still don't like this theme LOL)

Hi! The first thing that popped into my head as soon as someone mentioned the new theme was the last supper or something religious. Not the best of themes and was ideal that we werent given a choice. I guess it could be as simple as a music concert or festival. Let me know how find it!

It is genuinely insane how upset me and my friends were lol about this theme, compared to power and lock, gatherings is just so bland. Like I've got ideas but the term is so vague I can't even be certain that it even makes sense ugh. I was thinking maybe a gathering of stars or smth idek anymore

Reply 19

I guess it’s good that it’s vague, you can make anything up and just explain it in words why it connects in your development. Maybe use emotional sides of gatherings, like social anxiety, community, attachment to objects, it could be something that you relate to, just as long as you can prove that it has something to do with gathering.
Hope this helps!! Good luck 👍
