DSA needs assessment for mental health

hi guys, in a couple of weeks I have my DSA needs assessment in person. It is for anxiety and depression. I was wondering what type of things that I may be offered do they provide people with a counselling therapy service as that is what I need the most I already have a laptop and tech not a printer though. Also, what type of questions are they ask about my disability because I’m a bit nervous and do I need to prepare any notes? Thanks guys

Hi, the process isn't interrogative so please don't worry unduly. The Assessor is essentially working as your liason with the funding body to ensure you get the appropriate support, so they aren't going to try to catch you out with any "gotcha" questions. Counselling therapy is classed as medical support, which isn't funded through the DSA, but a Mental Health Mentor can certainly be requested for you. You can read more about what this type of support provides here - https://www.practitioners.slc.co.uk/media/1987/final-nmh-qualifications-matrix-july2023.pdf. You can also request a printer and a printing allowance for costs of consumables. The Assessor will have a lot of ideas for support to discuss with you. To prepare, I suggest you think of all the ways in which your condition impacts your engagement with your studies and university life. Best wishes.
