Medical School Work Experience

Hi guys! I'm totally new here, new to wanting to study medicine as well, I only realised my aspirations around the 2024 GCSEs (I'm in Yr12). Everything seems very daunting and difficult already haha..

On the bright side, I'm querying now to ask how you go about getting work experience relevant to the course (A lot of places i've gone through so far offer nothing ;-; and places that do are super highly competitive...)
I'm a good student so grades probably wouldnt be a super hard thing too achieve, I just want to know how to even start trying to fit all those extra stuff that'll make me 'unique' (and therefore boost my application).
For reference, my top choice of uni so far is Uni of Bristol (bc i love it and love bristol)
A few programmes ive applied to before have rejected me on the basis that i do not match their widening participation criteria sadly, which is out of my hands.
All I want to know is your experience when you had or are having to currently do this! And also any tips you have (please).

have u heard about the access to bristol scheme? it is highly competitve but i suggest u ask ur school about it bc if u can do it then u get an automatic interview at bristol uni for medicine AND u get lowered entry requirements.
i wanna do med too and i currently volunteer in a care home, i think the best thing to do is see if ur nearest hospital takes on volunteers, it can be just to keep the patients company during their stay or it can be doing actual work to keep the hospital working but the key thing u need to talk about in ur application is what u learnt and u managed to take away from ur experience. if u cant get into a hospital then try for anywhere where u are working with vulnerable, ill or young people.
hope this helps x
