Living on UCL main campus then travelling to UCL east campus

I am hopefully looking to study at UCL doing the Robotics and AI MEng course however its located in UCL East for the entire course. I will most likely accomodate at ucl but i would like to live in the main ucl campus instead of the ucl east accomodation. I have quite a few reasons for this (costs, wanting a strong ucl social life, my other friends being nearby, UCL east being mainly masters students, etc), but i havent seen much people talk about this on here. I know that if i live in main campus i would have to travel everyday to the main campus, but for me the benefits of living in main campus outweigh living in the east campus. Has anyone ever met someone or is someone who lives in the main ucl campus despite studying at UCL east or has any advice on this topic?

Hi, I recently got an offer from UCL for Creative Arts and Humanities and I am in the exact same situation as you. I was wondering if you have any updates on what you are thinking of doing / heard anything from anyone else. So far, I’m thinking of seeking accommodation near the main campus and travelling to UCL East as all the societies and main halls of residences are near the main campus.

45 minutes or so is just added hassle in my opinion and you will probably regret it. And that is not including the walking and waiting for trains etc.

I am in the same situation as well I got an offer from Information in society and I am likely to make it my firm choice but it's not that I fear FOMO but.... I feel like you'll miss out on a lot especially in first year if I never attend any socials / events/ clubs just because off the 40 minute distance. I also don't think that every class will be like super early in the morning so commuting 40 minutes seems reasonable to me - just sit on the tube and day dream.

Hiya, I have recently gotten an offer for Creative Arts and Humanities, and I am in the exact same situation, have you heard anything yet on other people’s opinions? I think I am also going to book accommodation in the main campus and commute to UCL east as the majority of societies / socials are near the main campus.

Hey! I’m doing this course, and I’ve just got accommodation. It’s around halfway between the two campuses but closer to the main one. I’m in the same boat, that I’m worried I’ll be missing out on the social life at the main campus, and just because I’ve seen that people say it can get quite quiet and lonely, I’m just worried I won’t enjoy the course because of the location.

Hi are you at new hall by any chance? Would you mind swapping with me as I have one Poole street. It would be so much better for me

Also you guys I might get a bit of backlash for saying this but I do think it’s a bit selfish of you lot to be studying at UCL east but want central London accom when there are SO many students who are actually studying at central London accom (especially those with bust schedules like engineering and med) but they have been given one Poole street. I know all the social events are central but from what I’ve seen, if you want to go to all the clubs on freshers you will have to commute by train anyways even if you are in central as the clubs aren’t close to UCL. Of course I’m lucky to have gotten central accom when I’m studying here but I know loads of people who aren’t as lucky.

You will have majority of your course mates at UCL east accommodation anyways so I doubt you would’ve “missed out” on anything. Being close to where your lectures take place is more important than being close to where all the clubs are. Besides most people hang out with their friends from their course so it’s unlikely you would interact with those from Bloomsbury anyways. A friend of mine got one Poole street and he has almost no one from his course there (since his course is at Bloomsbury)- imagine his fomo 🙂

Exactly like just stay at OPS if you are studying at UCL east and leave the central accom for those Actually studying at Bloomsbury. It makes everyone’s lives easier.

Honestly I agree with you- it is so frustrating now that I have to commute everyday to Bloomsbury with my very hectic degree (sure you can all guess what that is) when there are people who got accom there that aren’t even studying there! I don’t get what UCL is playing at by putting us at OPS and them in central.
