Hi, I wish you all the best for the application. Wow you have a solid working experience! Are you applying for other programs/universities as well?

As for me:

I graduated in 2020 from one of the best uni in Indonesia with a 3.77 GPA, majoring in Bachelor of Public Policy

I have 4 years of working experience in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Applying for the University of Cambridge (offer), LSE (waiting for the outcome), University of Edinburgh (offer), and Erasmus Mundus MAPP Joint Degree (waiting for the outcome)

Applied for MPP in mid December

Gosh first time on Student Room for over a decade but here we go!

Graduated from a UK University in 2019 with a First Class (4.0 GPA) Bachelors degree, Graduated from a MSc in Politics in 2021 with Merit (3.7 GPA)

I have four work experience in communications related works in Politics, Policy, and NGOs.

Applied for MPP after much deliberating last week (thankfully all my references have come through!)

Not applying for any other MPP this application season for financial reasons

Hi, thank you! I wish you best of luck, and congratulations on your offer from Cambridge. That's truly impressive! I'm confident that Oxford will extend an offer to you as well. Do you have a top choice among the universities? And a second preference?

I've also applied to LSE, UCL, KCL, and the University of Bristol, focusing on programmes related to Public Policy, Management, and Public Administration (Oxford and LSE are my top preferences).

Your work experience is impressive! I began working full-time during my first year of undergrad, sacrificing my GPA for professional experience. It turned out not to be that bad after all haha

I wish you all the best and hope you receive the offer! I also have extensive experience in communications 🤝

The application fees are indeed quite high. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the University of Bristol doesn't charge an application fee for certain programmes, and that at LSE, you can apply to two programmes for a single fee.

Oxbridge is my preference, once I get the results, I will then consider my options. What about you?

Thank you!! hehe yes it was an early result from Cambridge so I was a bit surprised. Where I will end up studying also depends on the funding. I am applying for scholarships from their university as well as Gates Cambridge. Oxbridge would be my preference.

Anyway, I saw you have applied to most universities I have too, may I know why you didn't apply to Cambridge? ahah just my curiosity as a non-UK citizen, so maybe you guys have some insights for me hehe

Best of luck for all of us

I’m also an international student, and tbh I found the programme at Cambridge far too academic for me. The entry requirements also gave me the vibe of a strong focus on GPA, which is my weak spot. Curious to hear how you chose your programs and what aspects were most important to you!

Financing is a tricky question for me—it is possible to get it for any offer, but there’s also a chance I won’t get any at all. Staying hopeful and keeping my fingers crossed 🤞

Hi everyone, I am also submitting my application today but a bit nervous. Graduated from NYU in Engineering, GPA: 3.62, 6 years experience of working in Higher Education. Nervous that my GPA is too low and my work experience isn't policy related enough

Hi there! Honestly, I don’t know the selection criteria, but I think your GPA is absolutely great (mine is lower 🙂). The admissions committee has mentioned before that they don’t have specific requirements regarding applicants’ backgrounds.

From previous posts on the forum, we also know that sometimes even candidates with extensive political experience are not admitted. So, in my opinion, GPA and experience alone definitely don’t determine your chances. There are so many other elements in the application where you can showcase your passion for this field, like the written work, personal statement, and other materials.

Good luck 😺

Quite the other way around I think. I was looking for academic driven programs at the top universities, most importantly the availability of professors in a certain field I am interested in, its called Behavioral Public Administration. I did not apply to UCL and KCL for that specific reason.

Btw, just got my LSE offer last night. Did you hear back on yours?

Congratulations! It must feel amazing to hold two highly respected offers already in January. I haven't heard back from LSE yet, my second recommendation was in only on 31/12. How long did it take for yours?

I submitted mine (after all reference letters were submitted) on December 6.

Which program did you apply to? Mine is MPA.

MSc Public Policy and Administration is my first preference, MPA is the second. Actually, after submitting I realised that I want the MPA even more. I really love the curriculum there.
All of my submissions were made between 14 December and the early beginning of January, so I believe I will start getting admission e-mails in February and later. Probably, the King's will be the first one. We'll see! Sooo exciting

Yes, it is 2 years after all. Not 1-year program like the others. But it will involve lots of math and stats 😅

Keep me updated on yours, we might be classmate if we end up choosing the same program!

Hi all, just received a notification that my application is now being prepared for assessment by the admissions committee. Anyone a home student?

Reply 17

eek I applied hours before the deadline because I just wasn’t able to manage my jobs demanding hours.

5yrs in government including 3 working across three ministry’s. Current policy advisor.

While I feel I have competent experience/grades, I think I shot myself in the foot with a very sloppy/generic SOP and WS. Oh well. Maybe next year.

No application is perfect, really. Looking back to mine, I'd enhance many things. But this is ok, it's hard to prepare all this documents with a full-time job. You have impressive experience, and 100% you've become a great writer just by that, I'm sure it's gonna be ok. Have a good rest and cheer yourself for coming this far already, few people make it 💫
