What happens if you put domestic violence or abuse on a housing application

What will they do? And do I need proof

Are you a victim of violence or other abuse? Have you contacted the police? There are various agencies that could assist you, including providers of refuge.

Are you asking about an application to a local authority or a housing association, or similar? If you are seeking priority consideration because of adverse personal circumstances, you will need to provide information sufficient to satisfy the housing provider that you have a priority need.

The first consideration must be your safety, and the safety of anyone you have with you, such as a child.

Yes I am, I currently live with the abuser and want to leave, I do have the option of going back to live with my dad but I would like my own place, I’m not sure if that makes me a priority or not.

I suggest that your immediate priority should be to leave the abuser at once. There may be a refuge that you can go to for a while, if for some reason going to stay with your father is not a good idea. You may be able to obtain advice on housing from charities and other organisations that assist people in your situation.

Should I put domestic violence on my housing application? I was offered support for housing before but then went back to him

Yes. It is very common for victims of abuse to return to abusers. Leave the abuser NOW, and never return.

Hello,

As previously mentioned you should definitely say yes on the application and get the support you need. The abuse you may have been victim of is not normal and you deserve to love without it. I know it can be incredibly difficult but you should leave, reach to various support services and not go back. It may be difficult in the short term as you potentially once and maybe still do have feelings for them but in the long term you will be glad you took these steps.

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions please let me know. Our PMs are also always open if you need to message us privately.
