My Goals For The New Semester

It can be difficult to get back into the university mindset after a long holiday break, especially if it's your first year. Therefore, since starting university, I've found it extremely useful to set myself a couple of goals for the upcoming term to help get my mind back on track and focus on what I need to do in the coming months.

As a final year student, I have my dissertation due in a couple of weeks - so one of my major goals is submitting that! I've done most of the prep work and gathered all of the necessary sources, so I just need to start finalising my current draft.

I also have the KSA Fine Art Degree Show at the start of June, which is a public exhibition which showcases select pieces of artwork from all the final year students on my course. Whilst it's a great chance to get pictures and exhibition experience for work post-graduation, it can be a bit nerve-wracking to think about how I'll have to make and install all my pieces within a fairly limited time frame. Right now, I'm trying to put the degree show to the back of my mind to focus on my dissertation - but that can be challenging when you have lots of progress tutorials to discuss your ideas!

On a more personal note, as this is my last year at Kingston, I'd like to follow up on all the things I haven't done before I go back home - restaurants I've bookmarked but haven't gone to, tourist attractions in central London I haven't had the chance to visit yet, etc. I'd also like to take a couple more days trips if I can afford the time: last term, I went to Oxford, but I'd like to visit Reading, Cardiff and Cambridge as well.

What are your goals for the next couple of months?
Ooh as a Cardiff student I definitely recommend visiting haha - its especially lovely in the spring/summer months, when the flowers bloom! Let me know if you'd like any recommendations of places to visit in Cardiff!

I am in my final year of university as well, so academically, a key focus is doing well in my dissertation and exams. Other than that though, I want to make the most of university-related activities! I love engaging in societies but this past academic year has been the year where I've been properly exploring hobbies that I enjoy. Its definitely something I want to keep doing this semester!

Hi!

It's great having goals and I like having a few goals for each year as it keeps me motivated! These are three of my goals for this year while I am at uni:

1.

To try and attend all of my seminars and write up my notes straight away after rather than leaving it. I also want to try and write my assignments as I go along as I always have good intentions of doing this but actually doing it each week can be tricky.

1.

I want to do more things with my friends from my course! We meet up fairly often and see each other at uni but we want to try and do some more nights out and things where we get more dressed up!

1.

I also would like to go to some more cities on day trips! I would quite like to go to York so I think that is the first place that I will be trying to go to!

1.

Sheffield is very close to the Peak District so I would also like to spend more time there and try and go on some walks there with my friends.

I hope everyone has a great time over the next few months 🙂

Hi there,

What a great question! Best of luck with your dissertation and art show, and I hope you manage to visit most of those bookmarked places.

My dissertation deadline is also nearing, so I have that to work on alongside other assignments. Luckily most of my data is collected, so it is just writing up from here!

Similarly to you, my other main focus is making the most of my remaining time here at Chester. It's a bittersweet time in final year, so I am going to try to check off as many things as I can. I also volunteer locally, so some of my time will be spent having a fantastic time with them!
