If I’m 16 in October when do I start college?

Hey everyone just confused as to whether I will start college this year or not. So I’m turning 16 on the 30th of October this year but the college course starts in September, does this mean I have to wait till next year??

You would normally be in Year 11 now, doing GCSE exams this summer and applying to start college in September 2026.

You are compulsory school age until the last Friday in June of the academic year in which you turn 16. So in your case you are compulsory school age until the last Friday in June of 2026.

After that, yes it would be usual to start college (if you plan on attending college) in the September, so September 2026.

Since your birthday is in October, you might have to wait until the next academic year to start college, as most courses usually go by age or the academic year cycle.
