Potential In Year Change of Circcumstances

I hope you're well.
I’m writing to enquire about the implications of a potential change in circumstances.

I am considering moving in with a partner. Due to the nature of our individual leases, this would probably not take effect until mid April.

I do an intense NHS course with at least 14 weeks of unpaid full time placement hours, so massively rely on the childcare grant element.

I won’t commit to this move until I am sure that I will not face a large overpayment for 2024/2025.

I live outside of London, and my rental obligation would probably increase to around £1,250.

CURRENT AWARD

Maintenance Loan : 12,208

[Of Which the Special Support Element equals] : 4,327

PLA Grant : 1,963

Childcare Grant : 10,068.24 (I have 1 child, 2 years old).

1. If my new household income between when we theoretically move in, (circa April) and August 31st (end of academic term) is 16,625, then will I remain entitled to the PLA and the Childcare Grant?

2. I believe that I would lose eligibility for the Special Support Element (£4,327). Would I lose it all, or would it be pro-rata’d down so that I only lose it for the months that we cohabit?

3. Is 31st August the cut off for 2024/2025 household income determinations?

I think that my new award would be*;

Maintenance loan (no grant or special support element) : 10,227

PLA Grant : 1,963

Childcare Grant : 10,068

*Based on household income of 16,625, before tax/NI/personal pensions deducted.

Would you be able to comment if this is accurate please.

Many thanks for your time and input,

Hi Isabel397650,

Those amounts look correct based on what you have advised here. However only the assessors can confirm the entitlement for sure when they receive all relevant figures and course details. We can provide general advice only however, they need to calculate this fully before being able to confirm the amounts.

Thanks, Clare
