I got into a car accident and didn't report it to my insurance

Hi,

I got into a silly little accident a while ago. I had never experienced this before and had no idea what the process was. We agreed to arrange it outside of insurance and before we could reach a reasonable solution they reported it to their insurance without me knowing. This means I hadn't reported the accident to my insurance and was completely blindsided. I recently saw on my policy that if I don't report an accident within 48 hours my policy could be cancelled. Has this happened to anyone before?

Thanks in advance.

I think you need to ring up your insurance company asap and explain what happened and hope they are sympathetic. I think there is probably a lesson to be learned here. Fingers crossed!

You might be screwed tbh. This is one of of the biggest exact risks of this kind of 'lets sort it ourselves' deals in that you have 0 power to stop the other person changing their mind and now you look like you tried to conceal it.
