EPQ Title ideas, please help!!

I'm currently in y12 and am doing an epq, but I don't know how to pick a topic to research.

I want to do it history based, and I'm not closed off to studying any part, but I don't know how to choose one that will keep me interested all year.

I would really appreciate any suggestions

you could do the history of something else you like. Like the 'history of the evolution of Pokemon', or something. Or, if you want to focus wholly on History, you could do the history of the Roman empire, or any other empire.

technically you don't have to do it all year, you just do it when you find interest in it.

I'm making a game, which I could literally make in two days but I will have to stretch over the course of the year, but my case is easier.

Remember that it can't overlap with the content you're learning in lessons if you do history A level. Is there anything you're particularly interested in at the moment? History is such a vast area, surely you must have some specific interests. The Vietnam War's military history, or the evolution of women's fashion in Britain, or Ancient Greek governments?

I'm currently studying Russia 1917 to 1953 and the tudors, but I'm also avoiding anything to do with Germany aswell.
Honestly I'm struggling to narrow down any areas of interest because I feel like there could be something I like in different parts of history but I am interested in wars, dictators and ancient civilisations so those suggestions are really helpful thank you!

If I were you I’d literally just search up “EPQ ideas for history” and there will be websites with like 50 ideas. Then just check them against your history syllabus and see what interests you. At this stage it’s okay to be quite broad. If there are multiple ideas you are into, maybe look online at sites like Google Scholar to see if there will be sufficient research on it.

Hello @Haliday01!

From my experience in doing an EPQ at college, here are some things I would recommend:

The first thing I did was make a mind map of all the potential topics that interested me and then researched these further to narrow my ideas down.

Sources such as YouTube, papers from Google Scholar, books, podcasts, TV shows, etc... are all great for exploring ideas.

Add any new interesting topics you come across during your research to the mind map.

Once you have a few, try and make them more specific so that you can come up with a title!

Remember to make sure that there is enough research available on your chosen topic so that you don't run out of sources.

As long as you are interested and passionate about the title you choose, you will be fine 🙂

Your interest in the topic may come and go throughout the year which is completely normal for a long-term project. Making a schedule for your EPQ might help you to overcome this.

Good luck with your EPQ and let me know if you have any other questions!
