Hi, worth looking into the format of your interview for the specific uni. How long is it, is it just conversational or an MMI (multiple mini interview with different stations you revolve around). These you should all be able to find from their website, worth emailing them if you need further clarification.

I would imagine most of the questions to be similar to medicine interview questions e.g
‘Why do you want to study this particular subject?’

‘Why do you want to go to this particular uni?’

‘What particular qualities would be expected of someone in this profession and how do you display them?’

‘Tell me about your work experience.’

‘What makes someone a good communicator?’ Or ‘tell me about a time when you communicated well to solve an issue.’

Worth looking at your personal statement again in order to recall your motivation and experiences. Think about how you can elaborate and reflect on these

Hi. Speech and language therapist and lecturer here.

The format does vary widely depending upon the university. When they send out invites you should be given an idea about what will be involved as kitty15 suggested above. Some are short 1-1 online with pre-set questions; some are in-person, involve practical tasks, interacting with other applicants etc.. I can't obviously tell you the specific format / questions my university uses. I based it both on my professional experience as well as my own experience attending interviews as an applicant.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @haniiii908

I hope you're doing well!

As has been said above, there are lots of different formats for interviews so this will probably influence the type of questions you are asked, and what you will be expected to say. You should receive information in your interview invitation about things like the length and format, and whether it will be individual or group.

In terms of preparation, I would recommend really thinking about your motivation for doing this course and trying to make this a comprehensive answer. Interviewers often want to know why you want to do the course, and what experiences or research has led up to you making the decision to pursue it.

It is also always a good idea to think about what you know about the role of a speech and language therapist, and what their job involves. This shows that you have done your research and put effort into learning about the job, and also shows that you are passionate about it because you have gone out of your way to find out more.

Another thing I found really useful when I was preparing for my interview was looking at the NHS values and thinking about how I embody these, and what examples I could think of that demonstrated how I display these values. It is also a good idea to compile all of your relevant work experience and volunteering so that you can mention this if it is relevant to a question you are asked. Also, thinking about reasons why you would be a good speech and language therapist is never going to be a bad idea!

It has been a long time since my interview so I am afraid I can't offer advice on specific questions that might be asked, but the easiest thing to do is likely to be to prepare generic answers about your motivation, your suitability for the career, and proof of your passion.

I hope this has been helpful! If you have any more questions, please just let me know.

Hattie😊
